Hi Everyone.
Please help.
How to add lyrics to an ABC music file format that already has chords?
For example, I would love to be able to add lyrics something like this...
|: "Am7" | "D7" | "Gmaj7" | "Cmaj7" |
L: hello sun | hello moon | hello cow | hello dune |
| "Cmaj7" | "Dm7" | "Bdim" | "G7" |
L: hello cat | hello dog | hello nothing | hello frog |
...etc...
...but I do not know the correct syntax, and (so far) cannot find it. of course, I want the lyrics to be shown in BIab (that is, I do not want to just add the lyrics as comments in the ABC file, I already know how to do that.)
Below is the actual ABC file content, which can be loaded in a plain-text file, given the .abc extension, and it does load and play in Biab 2024 using (File, Open Special, Open ABC)

For the text format see the BIAB 2024 Manual, Paste-Special, pages 90-91. But I believe that Lyrics are not included.

The w: is used to insert non-durational lyrics onto the bottom of the page, but they aren't associated with bars. The W: is used to associate lyrics with notes, but I couldn't get BiaB to import that correctly.
But you're not looking for either of these - you're looking for a way to associate lyrics with a bar of music, without attaching them to any notes.
I don't see any way to do that in ABC.

There are notation apps that can do this but not BIAB to my knowledge.

I always use the document window for lyrics.
