In particular, I'm trying to use ACW with RB. I used it in BIAB, stem splitting, etc. I'm not sure why the "tap" method doesn't work for defining barlines. In RB, the point was to use the F8 key, which I did, but when I went back to listen to my results, they're a mess. Why even have this function if it's not going to work?
I also can't figure out how to manually tweak the barlines in RB as we did in BIAB. Is the whole Stem Splitting and ACW function not good for RB?
Band-in-a-Box® for Windows Version 2025 (1128) 64 bit application RealBand 2025 (5) Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.70GHz Haswell 22nm Technology 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
i seem to remember there was a video about how to add a click track to RB which dealt with all the issues about bar lines and moving them before committing to finalising the track. i'll have a search but if someone can short cut the process by telling us where it it i'd be grateful.
Tapping F8 has always worked here. Clicking and dragging the first bar line to where the song starts makes a huge difference. Seems to give RB a good foundation to start analyzing from. RB usually gives a pop up with options after moving it (Set Bar 1 type).
I usually select 'Use Whole Song' or similar in the initial pop up when ACW starts, so you aren't basing your adjustments on a single (possibly) out of time track.
how do you set bar lines when its a fast tempo ? i find everything is whizzing along too fast.
my solution is to before import into rb slow song down by 50%. thus i find this easier to see and set bar lines. your opinion ? any other way bearing in mind my vision.
i really wish in the acw there was an option to tell play to playback at half speed. the idea is rather like we used to do in studios with tape.
if you have any better ideas...go for it.
happy new year.

You only tap F8 on the first beat of each measure, how fast can it be?
Personally, while in ACW if at a ridiculously real fast speed I'd tell it to use half speed tempo .. then change tempo back after importing back to RB. You'd just tap F8 on the one of every other bar instead of every bar, if that makes sense. Right-clicking the Tempo area reveals this option. But that would have to be a REALLY fast tempo.
Don't use your eyes watching it, use your ears hearing it and it doesn't "whiz by" so much.
Afterwards you can also just go back and re-drag various bars as needed visually before importing back into RB (?)

The problem i have is that on my laptop the F keys control everything on my computer. So, tapping th4e F8 key turns the volume of and on. I haven't figured that out yet. I wish there was an option to change the tap button.

ive been experimenting a lot to integrate stem splitter workflow and acw. what ive found is split first THEN use acw.
gonna test more.

Rob, Dell laptops have a UEFI (bios) setting that will let you toggle "F" key actions. That's a pretty common option for laptops. Let me know what brand and model laptop you have and I'll see if I can help you find the F keys toggle setting.
It's often the key in the lower left of the keyboard that is labeled Fn (function)
Hold that key down while tapping F8.
A common way to deal with it - To enable FN Lock on the All in One Media Keyboard, press the FN key, and the Caps Lock key at the same time. To disable FN Lock, press the FN key, and the Caps Lock key at the same time again.

one thing i would like definitevily answered is it seems to me that useing the acw in rb has an advantage of bb acw for the fact that rb can handle fractional tempos...right ?? so one is getting a fractional tempo map right ?
for example think of the case where lots of us have tape masters from commercial studios that have been digitised...there will be tape speed fluctuations right ?
frankly i really like the stem splitter in rb as i have more flexibility in working with it imho and useing the acw viz fractional tempos.
i really think a very detailed vid is needed detailing all the steps involved in takeing an old digitised tape master and employing the stem splitter and the acw in an integrated fashion in order to update the old tape master with new rb generated content.
happiness.

Yes, well not fractional, more decimal, like 112.1625344 .. I have seen some very long decimals. Take one of your old tapes and try it before they are too old to be valuable!
If you look at my old video above you'll see examples of very defined tempos ...
For hose unwilling to try the link, see below for an example of an ACW tempo map from a recording where a click was not used to start with

Rharv. i'm stupid i meant decimals...lol. i should know better with my tech background. to be fair my lovely wife was diverting me with some tasty treats.
btw my old studio songs are aleady digitised. loved your tempo map and the decimal places. this is a good example of many how usefull rb is. and yes ive been doing lots of tests on some of my old stuff. its a real treat useing the stem splitter in rb because for example on one of my old songs my vocs are a bit buried so useing stem splitter i was able to bring the vocs more forward.
all the above are examples why i prefer useing rb to say the bb plugin or standalone. in summary rb lets me do much more plus if i want i can still xfer tracks easily to another music app.
i'm sure more people would realise the benefits of rb if there were a range of vids....sigh,
respect to you and have a great 2025 Rharv.
