I have been using BIAB for 17 years. I play keyboards and left hand bass and let BIAB add guitar and drums. If needed I import midi for guitar parts in certain songs. When I play live I have the laptop on a music stand and an external monitor which displays the lyrics. At 73 years of age I am trying to simplify and haul as little as I need to a gig.
I would like to see if using a tablet rather than a laptop would be feasible. I have several Android tablets that I run Songbook Pro on for when I play with my band rather than doing a single. What is the best way to use a table with BIAB?

An Android tablet will not run Band-in-a-Box because Band-in-a-Box requires Windows or Macintosh computer operating systems.

Unfortunately, tablets using the Windows 11 operating system are not exactly cheap. +++ HERE +++ is PC Magazine's tablet picks for 2025.

Another possibility are convertible or sometimes called 2-in-1 laptops. These laptops have hinges that allow the lower keyboard section to fold 180 degrees to sit underneath the display. The display is a touchscreen so you can use the laptop much like a tablet but have access to a keyboard when you need one. +++ HERE +++ is PC Magazines suggestions for 2025. I should mention 2-in-1 laptops are MUCH cheaper than comparable tablets.

I don't know enough about Apple hardware to make any suggestions.

upnorth.

see my tips re buying and optimising a new pc for music production in pg tips forum to save me retyping
lots of info.

particularly important is LOW DPC of the device.
so many people just go out and buy any old pc
which is a mistake...so they sometimes get probs.

i agree with jim...you need a win pc prefereably with low dpc.
(see my tips.)

hope you catch a big one up north.

happiness.

om

I figured out a potential solution. I exported a BIAB song to an MP3. I saved it on my Google Drive and then opened that song on my Android tablet. Songbook Pro lets you attach a file to a song and save it. When you open the song in Songbook Pro you press the pay button and viola you have the BIAB arrangement playing.

This will let me leave a laptop and a 2nd monitor home.

My next step is to convert the 2 sets I played on New Years Eve to this format and see if the tablet has enough storage and if there are any other glitches.
