I downloaded the free version of Synth V a number of years ago, and I've never been able to get satisfactory results...I know that I'll have to spend some time learning to use it to my advantage...BUT...I'm not sure I even have a "supported" version. It also doesn't seem like their website is very useful in terms of help and feedback. My install says I have SynthV Studio Basic 1.10.1, Engine 2.8.1. I wonder if this "free" version was abandoned in favor of the paid license version. Also if there's substantial difference between what I have and what the paid version offers (my needs are pretty basic). Kind of thinking that I would be better served by upgrading b/c it seems like any of the user-generated help video's are using a different version. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

I don't know if you have the User Guide or not but this helps quite a bit. Synthesizer V User Guide Also lots of tutorials from their Youtube channel. Dreamtonics I don't own the free version but I do know it has some limitations like you cannot use the plugin in a DAW.

I found the free version to be pretty much unusable with its limitations; think of it as a seriously limited demo. But once I bought the software I really love it! It can produce absolutely amazing vocals that are indistinguishable from a live singer!
The GUI has a few quirks but all in all it is pretty solid (not nearly as quirky as BIAB!)
One tip: if you buy the paid version, before you install it be sure and completely uninstall the free version first. I found that the free version was not completely replaced by the paid version and certain features, like working inside Reaper, did not work until I uninstalled both free and paid and then reinstalled paid!
After you get the paid version. I recommend going to their YouTube channel and finding the set of videos that are in English (if that is a language you are comfortable with.) Those 10 or so videos took less than an hour to listen to and got me up and running nicely!
One more tip: I have gotten the best results by using Synth V to convert my vocal track to MIDI for use in Synth V. I just record my vocal track while listening to my BIAB backing track. Then I bring my vocal track into Synth V as well as my BIAB backing track. Synth V will convert my vocal track to MIDI and then I assign a voice and make any tweaks needed.
Cool tip #3: join the Dreamtonics forum and participate. There are folks there who know the program quite well.
Tip #4: check out the user-created scripts available for Synth V! There are some cool ones that really add to the program. My favorite has been a harmony script that will take your vocal MIDI track and create another vocal MIDI track with your choice of harmony parts! (Not perfect but a good start for creating harmonies!)

Some great tips there JJJ, thanks, I have been thinking about Synth V for a while now and wondering how big the learning curve is.
I don't really want to enter lyrics of a song manually and then mess around in the piano roll to enter a melody so singing it yourself seems a quicker way to go.
I did hear a song where I think Gutarhacker (Herb) used Synth v and was duly impressed.
I did watch part of a PGmusic video about Synth V but the brief viewing seemed to be about using the piano roll for a melody which I don't want to do.
So all in all a great thread here if anyone else has used Synth V with Biab.

Another great source is our own David Cuny. He knows more about Synthesizer V than anyone else and uses it in most of his really good songs.

David kindly gave me a personal lesson a while back, but I think the demo version has had me befuddled!

The biggest roadblock I've found to getting a good vocal out of SV is using one of the "lite/demo" databases. When I first tried SV it was very disappointing.
I took a chance and purchased the full SV and a couple of the voice databases. That made a significant difference in the results.
Also, if there's one secret to getting a good vocal that sounds real it is this. Learn how to use the vocal pitch line. That gives you the inflections you need to make it sound more like a human singer and less like a synth. In SV, you can actually draw the line manually which is really useful. Not even Melodyne lets you manually draw the pitch line.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
