This has always been an issue for me. Perhaps somebody can offer a reasonable solution? (Not manually cutting and moving audio) When you have an arrangement that has "too straight" of a feel, transitioning from one part to another (Verse>Chorus) sometimes sounds too robotic. What if I want to take a short pause between parts? Like a "breath" pause. The only workaround I found was creating a single beat bar between parts speeding it up to "breath timing" and then reverting tempo on the first bar of next part. Also, this creates a problem when hold is used as instruments have to die completely before that "pause" since N/C (no chord) function is not working, instruments ring till first bar of the next part.
Is there a smarter and easier way to insert and control the length of the "breath" pause between parts in Chord View?
Thank you.

That’s a great question. I’ll be following to see if there’s an answer.
For example, in my notation program, I can put a fermata symbol and then click on it to edit the duration of the hold. It does add realism as you say.
NC is not supported as you also say. I’ve asked for this to be implemented for decades ever since I saw it in the chord shortcut file, but I don’t think it was intended to do what you are looking for.

Misha, Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are describing the fermata (pause) that occasionally occurs at the end of one song section and before the next section. In many popular songs in the Tin Pan Alley genre, such a pause is commonly found at the end of the introduction. The purpose of this sign is to tell players (a) to ignore strict timing and (b) to use their own musical judgement when holding the note. Strict timing then returns in the following bar. In classical music, the fermata is a very common occurrence. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=30191&filename=fermata pause.jpg) If what I've described sounds like what you are describing, the only way that I know how to do this is to interrupt the timing in some way, either by slowing the tempo or adding extra beats. My approach is similar to yours. I insert a chord cell or two and usually keep the same tempo. Sometimes I change the number of beats in the cell. Keeping the same tempo reduces the likelihood of audio artifacts occurring when I add the hold. I don't worry about getting it 100% correct in BIAB because I use my DAW to make any adjustments. --Noel

Matt, Noel, thanks. That exactly what I am trying to do, interrupt the timing. The problem with extra beat/cell... It is usually longer than needed. It's a shame there is no easy way to do (and control the length) of this in BIAB .
I am trying to formulate request for the bar resolution in Chord View in newly created threads. There had been quite a few discussions on the topic. Microchords concept doesn't solve it properly. If it was integrated to Chord view - Bar settings, you would be able to add 2 cells at resolution of 16 to the end of the last bar before change(1/4th of a beat). That should create a "gap" in timing. Am I thinking this right?

I think we all understand the idea. I just don’t have a good idea yet for what a solution would look like. One obstacle I see that would require a serious rewrite is support for non-integer tempos, and support for tempo changes that are more frequent than every bar.
