You could be forgiven for thinking I’m a salesman for PBS (I’m not). But once again they have upped their game for their fund-raising efforts. If I were to provide consulting services to them, I’d suggest they continue on the path they are on and to drill even deeper.

Last night we caught Why You Like It: Decoding Music Taste and it was quite insightful. The host is Nolan Gasser, Musicologist and Musician. Those on the left side of the bell-curve (which sadly is most of the US but that’s another story) may not appreciate this program. But music enthusiasts interested in continued learning will definitely appreciate what he covers. Here are some vocabulary he gets into.

Entrainment
Enculturation
Syncopation
Physics
Montuno
Psychology
Dopamine
Ritornello
Amygdala

. . . all good stuff!

Fwiw, Nolan is also the architect of Pandora Radio, a streaming service we listen from 2 to 4 hours each day. Attached is our set up, the only thing worse than a smart TV speaker is a cell phone speaker.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
