Well, removing any midi computer input from my keyboard seems to have stopped the access violation problem with ASIO (always on) but another problem has surfaced with ASIO that I have discussed on the forum before.

When using "pause until midi or key received" the song starts to play instantly but there is sometimes (but not always!) a 1-2 second delay before any sound is heard even after the song has been generated and played several times. I tried freezing all tracks and it makes no difference. It is the same with or without RT/RD in the style. The strange thing is I can play Thru with no obvious latency. I have struggled with this problem ad infinitum in the past and never found a permanent solution. It never happened with an older laptop running XP.

I am giving up on ASIO, MME seems to work fine for me.

Thanks for all the help

Tony

Are you hitting 'play' or replay?

I believe play makes the computer regenerate (or check if it should). This could cause the delay.

I don't think the problem has anything to do with play/replay because, as I understand it, freezing all tracks is equivalent to replay and freezing doesn't help. In any case I am starting or restarting by sending a midi/key signal, not by hitting a button.

Thanks

But if the midi signal is assigned to the 'play' command ... it could cause the delay.
Freezing *should* help as you stated.
The fact that it never happened on a different system tells us something, just not sure what!

I'll leave the ASIO part to others because I've never gotten it to work well on my system. As I mentioned earlier, access violations are always unique to someone's individual setup as opposed to everybody getting them. In this case it seems to be your keyboard. What model keyboard are you using? There was a thread some time ago about hooking up an arranger keyboard and the fact it kept sending some kind of "extra" midi data that was messing things up even if it wasn't in arranger mode. The user had to do something but I can't remember what it was.

With AVG disabled: i have the same problems, BIAB won't boot. It started with the last update, BIAB has been running before.
Running XP Sp3 on ASUS 6PT SE, intel i7_920, 6 GB memory, Unitor 8 serial version, M-Audio Delta1010, soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, onboard Realtec chip disabled. ASIO4all 2.10, unstalled this, same problem. Please get your act together; I am really getting fed-up with BIAB now, that especially after spending so much money on the software over the years. I am a professional musician using BIAB for leadsheets etc. I simply don't have the time for all this experimenting to find your new bugs. PS i also have the same problems with ASIO switched off, thus MME..- F

Fiddler2007, welcome to the forum after so many years.

An access violation occurs after running and exiting the program, if it occurs at all. Many (most?) do not encounter it. You state that BIAB will not boot, which is a different problem deserving of a separate thread. Then you can give us some more details to work with.

One problem i see is that ASIO4All is not a good idea with a Delta 1010. Delta has great real ASIO drivers, and there is not need to wrap the MME driver in ASIO4All. Download the latest Delta ASIO driver and use that.

How are you using the delta 1010 and the soundblaster audigy 2 ZS together? I would use one or the other. I know folks that use both successfully, but for most it is a hassle. SB cards love to run ad 48,000 same rate, most other cards default to 44,100 that could account for some issues.

The unitor 8 midi interface is rather old and came out for win 98 and win 2000, do they have win 7 drivers, and if so do they have 64 bit versions? Never mind i see you have XP

I saw a few threads about issues with that on the net.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
