I've been always a fan of PGMusic's help files' writing style: Precise, informative and full of examples. Unfortunately, this is not true anymore: BIAB's help file is full of out-of-date information and is really confusing and chaotic. You can, in fact, view a lot screenshoots from BIAB version 8!
The whole help file needs, IMHO, a full rewrite.

I agree.

And visually, it's awful.

One major flaw is the lack of hot links from within the Help. If I'm viewing a Help page, I should be able to click all BIAB-specific jargon and either be navigated to a page dedicated to that term or be provided a definition or explanation.

Similarly, if any reference is made to a screen, panel, window, module, component, sub-component, capability, or feature of BIAB, I should be able to actually ACTIVATE that item or navigate to that item directly from the Help. For example, let's say you are in Windows Help and are reading how to change your display settings. A procedure may say to open the Control Panel and click Display Options (or whatever it's called). Well, both Control Panel and Display Options should be click-able, so users can navigate right there if they want to.

Also, I find the text-based "tutorials" to be no better than the Help files.

I wonder, the best examples of this kind of indexed help that I've seen are online, where they can always be kept current. Do you think all users would like that, having to access the Internet to use the help?

Well, yes and no Matt.

Yes, it would be great to have access to that resource on the internet, in case you are working on some project and have internet access. I sometimes still work as a musician on cruiseships, we can go 3 or 4 days at a time without internet. Too bad the whole Iridium Global cell phone concept never caught on. It would have been perfect for ship musicians worldwide.

The web-based or server-based files provide the greatest document-management control. I like that approach a lot, but I certainly see Ed's point.

Must it be either/or?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
