Ok, here's a tune that could be classified as "Avant garde" or "free Jazz" from back in the 60's in an smoky small club. Not everyone's flavor of Jazz including myself, some pieces I never understood, but here it is:
Cool Dude

Style is ZZJAZZ.STY (Jazz Swing Style)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic String Bass (33), Acoustic Piano (1), Sforszando
RealTracks in song: 2378:Sax, Baritone, Soloist JazzBalladGary Sw 085 (Bluesy)
RealTracks in song: 2408:Flute, Soloist JazzSwingJack Sw 140
RealDrums [in Song:JazzRideLewis^03-a:Brushes Swirl, Busy Snare , b:Side Stick, Toms and Ride

Thanks

Mike B.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Avant garde either works for us or it doesn't -- not a lot of middle ground and, man,
this one was cool. A cool dude indeed smile

Sittin' in a small club listening to this quartet would be fabulous!

Well done and love the crowd ambiance.

Hi Mike,

Enjoyed this track.

What is the instrument in the left hand speaker with a "tonk" sound?

Best Regards
Nigel

Sorry guys for the late response. Thank you all for the comments, I was otherwise busy and been away from the forum for a little bit.
Nigel, the "tonk" sound is an almost muted vibes. Instead of a piano I chose a vibe patch for this.
Thanks again

Mike B.

Hi Mike B.,

Well, allow us to enjoy it... maybe it is "free" jazz... but it works really well in this case. And you have made a good mix!

Thanks a lot for sharing!

Avant garde jazz from the cool era of jazz.

Mike you nailed it.

Jazz at its best!

PS - I'll take a martini, stirred not shaken.

Hi Cubanpete,

Very nice arrangement on a composition rich in variations. The sax and flute playing are great. You managed to bring us into your musical universe. I appreciated.

Ok, that last one was my attempt at humor. Every time I see a new post from Cubanpete I smile, knowing that when I push the play button I'm in for a musical treat. I remember back in the 70s hearing a free-jazz album called "The Ear Of The Behearer" and instantly knew my ears were not right for it. This, on the other hand, keeps me smiling. Thanks, Mike.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
