******* Topic 1: Replacing RealTracks parts with song specific riffs **********************************

If you generate RealTracks, there may be times where you want the RealTrack to play a specific part. This might be a certain riff, or a certain bass pattern.
RealTracks are audio, so that they aren't editable on a note-by-note basis. But you can use MIDI for this, by deleting the RealTracks section, and replacing it with the exact pattern or riff that you want (entered by you as MIDI notes on a MIDI Track)

You can do this in a DAW (sequencer) like RealBand (or Sonar etc.). It would be possible to do this entirely in BB (by using the melody track for the MIDI part, but it is more much flexible to use a DAW like RealBand for this)

MIDI can be used to replace any section of RealTracks. You can do this in a DAW like RealBand or whatever DAW that you use.

To do this, you:
1. delete the section of RealTracks that you want to replace with MIDI
2. On another track, enter the MIDI notes that you want, and assign the same MIDI instrument. (eg. Acoustic Bass)

Note that you don't need to use a "fancy/expensive MIDI synthesizer" for this. You can use the synth that is included free with Band-in-a-Box - the Coyote GM Wavetable synth. (this synth works on all Windows versions XP/Vista/Windows 7 32 or 64 bit)

Here's a video showing an example of replacing RealTracks bass part with a MIDI bass part, for a song specific example. We are using RealBand. On the video we
1. Generate a RealStyle of a jazz quartet
2. Replace bar 4 of the bass part with a song specific bass riff that we want, by entering a MIDI bass part. Note that we use the built-in synth sounds from the Coyote GM Wavetable synth that comes with Band-in-a-Box.

Note: the audio on the video is just ambient audio from the built-in mic.

If you want to hear the song in audio only format, here is the song saved as a WMA file from RealBand.

WHen you listen to the audio, on bar 4 you should listen for the bass part - it is playing a song specific part, and has a MIDI bass replacing the RealBass part.

SO the end result is that you hear Real Musicians playing for the whole song, except for the song specific MIDI riff that you wanted on the bass part at bar 4.

You can of course also edit MIDI tracks to add song specific parts.
Here is the same style generated as a MIDI style, with all MIDI instruments.
We add a song-specific bass riff at bar 4, to replace the MIDI bass part
Here is the video for that (all MIDI demo): http://screencast.com/t/zIbAntCj
