The Fisherman's Daughter

©2013 Robert Randall Burke

Heave-ho
Mind how you go
If you want to make it to Gloucester
Hold fast
Pull with your last
And you'll marry the fisherman's daughter.

The summer was long way out on the Banks
We've come about, heading for home
Safe ashore, he'll wander no more
For he'll marry the fisherman's daughter.

The lighthouse will welcome us home from the sea
The wives will be waitin' ashore
This will be the last trip for thee
For you'll marry the fisherman's daughter.

Trust in God
And a hold full of cod
The Banks never seen such a slaughter
With brass in our pockets
And a girl on each arm
But he'll marry the fisherman's daughter.

The summer was long way out on the Banks
We've come about, heading for home
Safe ashore, he'll wander no more
For he'll marry the fisherman's daughter.
