The leads (a fairly small part of the song), are taken from 5 generations of the RT (plus 3 that were not used). The original tempo of the RT is 100. The song is at 105. Listening to the raw RT files, the range is almost identical. And the tone is the same. The process involved did not change that at all. There is no added processing to those tracks - they are exactly as they come out of BIAB. I doubt seriously that Brent Mason went into the studio to record this stuff and used an amp sim - so the fact that you can't get those to work for you has no bearing here.

Though you consider Brent's choice a "tonal disaster", I happen to like it and I trust that he knows what he is doing. Otherwise, I would not have used it in the first place. But, of course, you can't please everyone and everyone has their own tastes.
