Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) counts either four chords to the bar (4/4 time) or three chords to the bar (3/4 or waltz time). Style selection determines which count BiaB will use. BiaB derives all other time signatures from 3/4 or 4/4 time signatures.

During playback and chord entry the cursor position is displayed as a rectangle. Each rectangle cursor position displays two chord positions so there are two cursor positions within each bar. The left cursor position in a bar is used for beat 1 and beat 2 while the right cursor position in a bar is used for beat 3 and beat 4.

Chords are entered by entering both odd and even beats into a cursor position. The odd beat and even beat chord information are separated with a comma.

So, if I wanted to have the four chords "E" "A" "A" "B" played in one bar I would enter the information as: e,a (press tab or enter to advance) a,b
