In the security biz, I run into this all the time. Use the menu to choose the input type.

on the flip side.... HDMI should give you the highest video resolution. Way better than VGA. So if push comes to shove and the HDMI thing just doesn't work....go to amazon and get an adapter for $10 but understand that the resolution will only be VGA

edit: if you have a different DP cable, swap it. On the monitor settings, be sure you save it before closing out. I make that mistake all the time.
