I'd guess that threshold would vary from system to system, and how you have things configured.

As default, RB/PT uses a Temp area of the C: drive ...
I always make a point of pointing my Temp Audio directory to somewhere I define instead, and if possible, a separate internal drive.

Edits and incoming recorded audio use that drive .. and it gets cleaned up at end of session.
So it reads the file from one drive and writes incoming audio to another this way. Separate Read/Write drives.
