Many thanks for the really nice comments! The song is in the key of D but the verses focus more on the Bm aspect, but the chorus goes to Dmaj7. I've always thought the transition from the relative minor to the Maj7 of the tonic/root is such a sweet and soothing sound. I need to use it more often!
