Then you simply plug the Win10 cloned drive back in same as you would do on Mac when things don't work anymore and companies are taking ages to make the app compatible with this week's new OS.

Exactly the same as I would do with a Mac, for sure. Most users don't know how to clone their hard drive though - which is definitely something they should learn before installing any OS upgrade!
