Moore's Law was probably always going to hit an end-stop eventually. It's plateaued a bit, but not entirely. Whilst speed rises have largely stalled, the number of CPU cores has compensated somewhat for that. Somethinh like quantum or optical computing could still show this slow-down as a speed-bump, not a barrier.
