What exactly is your workflow?

Here is how it perfectly works for me:
1-right click on instrument
2-click on select custom MIDI style for this track
3-select 41: violin in the instrument window
4-Choose style with this instrument
5-pick a style
6-click OK

If this doesn't work for you a "return to factory settings" under "options" may solve your problem. Use the "most" setting under the factory settings.
