I've always thought that everyone should have a song written about their name. I'm realizing that, in our current society's choice of naming kids, that could become nearly impossible! Anyway, I ran into a friend who mentioned his wife, Marguerite. I immediately thought "what a great name for a song--lots of good rhymes there!" --------------------------- Oh, Marguerite! Here I stand, holding my hat in hand, Down on my knees, I ask with this song: You are still my bride..Can you excuse my pride?-- I was wrong. I can't say what made me turn away Just when you needed me here by your side; Now I've come to know that I failed you so When I left you so hurting inside. Chorus And, angel you, your heart stayed true Trusting that our love would still have life; And, foolish me, I was brought to see, There in the mist--I had an angel for a wife. I renew all of my vows to you And from my knees, I want to repeat: I pledge this day that I'll never stray-- Take me back!, Marguerite! That would be so sweet! This is just personal taste (mostly I just skip posts I'm not keen on taste-wise) : I think both the chord structure and vocal melody of this song have great potential, but I wasn't keen on this production, mainly because I didn't like the oo-aahs, particularly at the beginning, as they reminded me of the kind used in early 50s US Western TV series such as "The Legend of Jim Bowie". IE: I feel it's a very dated sound, whereas the song's theme deserved something brighter and celebratory. Restructured I think it could be excellent.

Cool idea, Tom, and a great place to get it. You're right, it's a great name for a song. And I'm right, this is such a good write. Good lyrics, and a passionate build. Can your friend sing? Your vocal is so good, but I wonder if Marguerite would like a special version with him singin. Good use of the ooz and oz, and I dig that fretless.

WaoBand...I've been thinking about your feedback and how to respond. I think you nailed it--it is supposed to sound EXACTLY like the 1950's! My intent was to try to write in the style of "street-corner" vocal groups, so popular in the late '50's. It may not be a style that rings for you, but maybe some others on the forum can suggest artists/songs from that era in this style. I always think of the "The Persuasions", but they were Acappella.
