A Simple Country Waltz

The title says it all.

I am playing the fretless bass, rhythm and lead guitars, and via my keyboard controller the lap steel. I am using the drum track from Style Excellent Classic Country Waltz. The tempo is 85 PBM.

All comments are welcomed.

It's 1961.
Sitting at the bar.
A near empty beer.
An ash tray half full of the remains of unfiltered Camels.
Three guys at a table. One of 'em loud now and again.
A jukebox.
A young couple slow dancing.
Blanketed in a haze of cigarette smoke.

That is where your song took me.

Nicely played.

Hi Mario,

I think Floyd summed it up pretty good. Nicely done - a good example of the traditional country waltz.

Your music is always top notch.

Thanx Bob. Having filled in with a few country bands helped me on this one. Glad you liked it.

Thanx Floyd. Your description brought back some fond memories, both from the bandstand and sitting with those other two guys. Playing in those bars back then was hazardous to your health, not to mention I was also smoking back then. The best thing I did in 1975 was to quit smoking. I'm glad you liked it.

Mario, fun tune! Love the touch, tone and tremolo (the 3 T's I guess) on your guitar. Nice playing all the way around. I'm picturing dinner time at the cattle drive with all the cowpokes sitting around the fire and eating a hardy stew...

Might be as tasty as this song!

Hello Mario. I am not very used to this musical style (country), but I love lap steel and this retro sound of the guitar.

Yep. I was sitting at the table Floyd described, and the only time I got loud was when I yelled to the bartender to get that guy another beer. Then I sat back and said told the other guys how sad country waltzes remind them of the one that got away. Then I remembered the flat tire on my pickup in the lot. I walked out to change it so the guys wouldn't see me crying.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx Ron for listening and commenting. I'm glad they were eating a hardy stew and not beans like in Blazing Saddles laugh

Thanx. I played in wedding bands for years plus I have a huge diverse album and CD collection. Thus I am exposed to all genres but a master of none.

Thanx Laurent for listening and commenting on a genre you are not familiar. The songs on the showcase as well as the various BiaB styles has opened me up to genres I am not familiar also.

Thanx Marty. I think I saw your pickup truck in the lot. Was that the one with the easy rider rifle rack?

PS - I still haven't gotten that beer yet!

It really sounds like it's asking for some simple country lyrics and vocals.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

This is SUPERB. Deceptively simple, of that kind of simplicity that only the masters attain. As someone else commented: you really are versatile, apart from everything else. You have a way of writing music which conjures up memories. This, for what it's worth, reminded me of the time I was watching Willie Nelson on TV (I'm sadly too young to have had the chance to watch him live), singing his heart out in front of many other country music luminaries. This song wouldn't be out of place in his repertoire. Bravo, Mario.
