Well not long ago, Floyd posted a gut-wrenching song about a waitress. And I said to myself: "No! I will NOT sit idly by and let Floyd Jane just walk away with the gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, shoot myself in the head song of the year. I will not! I decided I had to either man up, or Tom Waits up. I chose the latter. I am playing drunken, rye-sotted piano, in kind of a free form style, with a gigantic puff of smoke from a pack of Pall Malls. Hope you cry your eyeballs out!!!!!! Great job, Dave, that's about as much of a Waits send-up as anyone's ever done. If he passes, you can head a tribute band for sure.

David,
Amazing...
This production appeals so much to me - love everything about this song and performance.
You are completely at your best when you immerse yourself in music & personality.
Again, AMAZING!

The Waits thing. Totally. I like the drunken piano.
One hell of a write. You need to do this straight up - as David Snyder. It's too good to leave as parody.
This is Entertainment.

You know about lyrics for sure, David. They are captivating. I love that simple unwashed musical treatment, too. Floyd says that you should do it straight up. I agree.

David,
A casual listener who is dropping by and who is unfamiliar with you, would have no idea how truly talented you are! I am always amazed at your outside of the box thinking and willingness to take chances! But that's how you continually come up with these gems! This is a thing of beauty to my ears! I am not very familiar with the artist you are channeling here, but I know a quality production when I hear it! You knocked it out of the park on this! I'm still a big fan!
Thanks, TB

Hope you cry your eyeballs out!!!!!! Well, I have to admit that I rather laughed my *ss off. But I really like your song. It's amazing how you can immerse yourself in another personality, sound completely different and still be yourself. Kinda at least

So I start listening and I think the impression is pretty darn good, then I think he’s crazy but the lyrics are good. So good. The chorus comes around and I think this Snyder he’s batsh*t crazy. But so good. Then I dig in to vibe and the great writing and I’m hooked and all in before the 2nd chorus. So good. So good.

I'm a bit of a Philistine when it comes to Waites - just the one album chimes with me - Heart Attack & Vine. This could've fitted that album well. I hope your throat doesn't hurt after the gargled vox. The arrangement is pure TW too...the trumpet interrupting/erupting & the schmaltz of the string. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps we all should do a tribute thing & call it He Who Waites.

Very creative, you nailed the mood. I’m not sure what you had to do to your voice to get that effect, but I hope the recovery time isn’t too long!!

Just...brilliant. A wonderful write with perfectly insane vocals. LOVE that crazy piano and the meandering trumpet. This is sublime, next level stuff. Bravo!

Holy wow!! Yes, Tom Waits lives within you on this one, David. Great choice for gut-wrenching-what-did-he-say-song that is so good to become -it-just-doesn't=matter-cuz-this-is-so-good. Written and presented like it should be song 1 on side A of Tom Waits For No Man, man.

Hey thanks tunemonger!
I really appreciate the kind words my friend!
Yeah I had a lot of fun doing this just trying to make myself laugh, and I did make myself laugh but at the end of it I thought well this isn't so bad after all.
And I probably will go back and do a straight singing version like people have recommended.

David, it took me some time to clear my eyes enough to write this. I just hope no teardrops fall onto my keyboard and short it out!
You got Waits down perfectly. Loved that drunken piano part - brilliant. Loved those lyrics, I think you won the sad song battle. Loved the song!
Doc-take it easy John this is just a sharp scalpel. It will not cut deep so don't worry. Me-I'm not John Doc-I know, I am!

I feel the pain, suffering, and lament in your poetry. Your vivid lyrics, paint a picture of depression, and desperation of your characters/ You vocal brings it all together.

David, excellent song, really well done!
I love the parody and it works that way, but I'm with Floyd, would love to hear you do a straight up version!

Crying or rather laughing my eyeballs out, this is an unbelievable song. How can anyone sing like this, every note is full of tears and emotion, melting even the toughest heart. "She works at the Denny's/I work at the Exxon/But she still comes home/Greasier than me" one of the best introduction in a long time.
Superb arrangement, the piano is the spinal fluid of the song with its heartbreaking chords and those supporting instruments add to the mood almost unnoticed but in a deeply gut-wrenching way.
Exxcelent! At the end, I can almost here the BIAB words: "but Waites, there's more" and I'll be hearing the sequel...
Janne

Hey thanks Floyd!
I appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I will take you up on your suggestion to do a version that not a parody but straightforward.
Thanks again for listening.
