A Lovers Dance

The two of you are dating and inseparable. But after awhile you drift apart and split up. Each goes their own way, both feeling happy but sometimes sad. They end up missing each other and get back together.

The drums are from W_JWLSEP.STY Jazz Waltz Electric Piano Trio - converted to MIDI, modified to better fit the song. Sound source - Aria Player - 01 Brush Drum Kit

Bass - Super MIDI Track - 3513 Bass, American 16ths Steve EV16 07

The EP track is from EZKeys2 - sound source - Dream Machine - MK VII DreamStation

Via my breath and keyboard controller I am playing the Swam Tenor sax and Flute. Note I wrote the second flute part, i.e. I didn't play it.

As always all comments are welcomed.

Hi Mario!
Thanks for the context to this song in your written intro - it really set me up to listen carefully and understand the mood of the song. I am assuming the lower and higher pitch parts are man and woman respectively? If so, you did a wonderful job of making the melody and intonation speak for each partner. I am sure I heard the man talk of his sadness, remorse, loneliness, seeking forgiveness, and a gentle longing for the companionship of the lady. Likewise, the lady higher pitch said similar things, but I felt almost with a slightly more happy tone - whether that was a trick of the harmony pitch (e.g. more 3rds and 6ths) - I don’t know.
The 3/4 time also gave me the impression they were confessing their love for each other while looking at each other and slow dancing.
Well done!
Andrew D

Mario, this is gorgeous! That must be a stereo EP sample...it sounds GREAT. Super composition and arrangement. Superb playing of virtual instruments, as always. The duet section near the end is especially nice. Very tasteful and serene, and WAY beyond what BiaB can do by itself. I need a Mario plugin!

Nicely done!

Hi, Mario.

Waltzes are always nice, and this is no exception.

I liked the sax, but the flute was a bit less convincing - probably because I could hear your breath shape the sax notes.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Very peaceful and pleasant, and the combo of sounds played so nicely together. I liked it, except for one thing—a personal gripe against MIDI drums…that damned cymbal or HiHat..I wish they’d offer a “soft-touch” open HiHat, I can never find one that I like—sounds too clanky to my ears. Enuf of my personal rant, this was so nice on a quiet Sunday morning!

Great solos man. Really nice.
Well written, arrangement and an excellent backing group.

Oh, and we are always down with a nice waltz like this.

Much enjoyed!

I always enjoy the Swami of the sax Flute was good, too, but that sax, you got that thing dialed in. Great job.

Apparently, the computer is working fine again and everything is reconnected. Now I can settle into my rocking chair and listen to Mario's relaxing music.

Yeah, a story of the grass is greener on the other side of the fence until you have to cut it. I have (had) two friends, both with 3 marriages, the first and third being the same gal. Mario, you are a treasured master of mesmerizing music. Excellent playing throughout. The harmony playing was quite special.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx David. I'll have to work on that flute playing technique. IIRC is a breath setting on the flute.

Thanx so much. That drum track is really my fault. My music computer is giving me problems and I couldn't get to my good drum sounds so I used an old Aria drum kit. You are spot on about the cymbals.

Thanx so much Janice and Bud. Actually I played in bands all through my high school days and I never learned how to dance. I was always on the band stand. Thus the only dance I know is a waltz. But my high school sweetheart, now my wife, never complained!

Thanx. I found it easier to emulate a sax than a flute. So much to learn and so little time.

Thanx so much Marty for the kind review. I don't think that I am "a treasured master of mesmerizing music". I know that I am not a master of memorizing music, i.e. a very bad case of CRS!

Thanx Laurent. I finally got my Win 11 Internet computer up and running. A real PITA transferring programs and data from my 14 year old Win 10 one. But my 14 year old music computer is having intermittent problems; it is probably a power supply, MB, or a SSD going bad. I'm not going to do a thing with it as hopefully I will be getting a new Win 11 one. If I was only a lot richer!

An emotionally evocative tune with quite the appropriate title. The solos are tenderly played. All nicely done.
