SO, I heard Bob Dean's Song Ludlow Street, and wrote a 2 minute later reply of some goofy song lyrics off the top of my head in, well, 2 minutes. Bob said he was going to cover it! I said, wait! Let me try this first.

Obviously, Bob and I used to haunt all the same streets and I wanted a piece of the action. Back when when I was a kid, my band played at The Bitter End quite a few times on Saturday nights at 11, so trust me I know the scene. Our full-room crowd was always a diverse crowd of older people, middle-aged people, young people, grunge, punk, metal heads, you name it. I asked a manager one time why he was so nice to us and gave us some of the best slots, and he said, in a real Jersey-style accent, "Because this sounds like f.... muuusic." ! smile Ah,...New York. I remember after one show, a metal band guy who had played before us (he had a ring in one eyebrow) stood at the front of the stage and just stared at us the entire time without moving Then, he came up to me afterwards and said, "Dude that was f....awesome." God I miss those days.

Anyway, I don't know why, but it seemed all of my most popular stuff happened when I was just goofin' around and being silly. Still haven't figured that one out. This is in the same vein, just trying to make Bob laugh. But there is something I really like about this, in spite of that. It floods me with memories and warm feelings of just wandering around the city on lazy Sundays trying to figure out what to do, always knowing that "Dude, one day you're going to miss this..." So I tried my best to get it while it was hot, in every way.

Hope you like it.

EDUARDO'S BODEGA

by David Snyder

Eduardo's Bodega
The lights are out
No more cigarette packs
What's that all about
No more Nico in Chelsea
Or the ghost of Lou Reed
Eduardo's Bodega
Used to have what I need
Now I look in the dumpster
I look on the street
No more butts in my pocket
So I look at my feet
Could go to the east side
Take an uptown train
Maybe jump a few turnstiles
Not stay in the rain
Maybe take Jane Street
but I don't know why
Go over to Carmine
With the mafia guys
Just don't go down Bank Street
At this time of night
It's too dark on Barrow
Since they shut out the lights
Eduardo's Bodega
I'm saying goodbye
But I can't find a taxi
Yeah I can't catch a ride
Can't call an Uber
Cause I'm blacklisted now
Stuck here on Gay Street
Guess I can't leave town
And Eduardo's Bodega
Man they're tearing it down
One more line in my song now
Guess I'll see you around
One more line in my song now
Guess I'll see you around

David,

This music speaks directly to me…

When I first read the lyrics they held such a sense of familiarity and nostalgia for me.

The folky / jazzy arrangement is just perfect, as is your vocal delivery (one of your best). And that background synth is a real heartbreaker.

Outstanding in absolutely every way.

Cool.

Ya pulled a little Asbury Park to the City.
With a sprinklin' of the West Coast Growler.
The Snyder Way.

Got lost in that, too...

At first I thought you had put a reverb on the 2 bus with the longest tail possible. Turns out you were just repeating all the lines. (Just Kidding). Obviously this has got the Boss written all over it, especially the Wild, the Innocent and the E St Shuffle (second album). Great job, if I could sing like this I'd be coasting as the head of a tribute band.

David,

It's a great folk waltz.
And it's definitely a David Snyder song.
The way you sing with narration is very nice.
The choice of instruments is also wonderful.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

David, beautiful tune! SUPER vocals, love your breathy phrases and other subtle choices. They're beyond perfect. Also love the way you took a simple progression and twisted it around the lyric for five minutes, never losing the theme but never sounding repetitive. It's musical magic.

Mostly I love your character sketch of a time and place we never knew, but now think we might.

Recently visited the Warhol museum in Pittsburgh, which is organized chronologically by floor. By far my favorite part was the Lou/Nico/Velvet Underground days. Reminded me of this tune and Bob's similarly inspired music.

Excellent stuff!

That's one interesting autobiography. Makes me realize I had a very sheltered life. Perhaps it was genetic - my parents spent much of their late teens in air-raid shelters during the Blitz. wink

Getting back to the song, the band and lyrics work well to create just the right atmosphere. Not a genre I'm familiar with but it kind of drew me in. Great job.

Another Snyder masterpiece
Loved those lyrics
Great vocal, arrangement, and mix
An outstanding song

I got banned from Weight Watchers for dropping a bag of M&Ms on the floor.

It's definitely a Bob Dean type of song and I think if he covered it with Joliz backing him it would be a lot better. The repeated lines were a little annoying, which is where a backing vocalist would sort things.

Hi, David.

Dude that was f....awesome! It walks that fine line between sincerity and parody. (I should use that rhyme).

   Can't call an Uber
   Cause I'm blacklisted now

Makes me wonder about that story. But I'm guessing that's for another song. wink

Keep 'em coming! smile

Oh, man, this is so perfect. I also love your writing of those old times you had. Bob Dean is very very inspirational, and, dang, when you get inspired, David, there is nothing better. Lyrics, tempo, melody, band and arragement are all so engaging. My eyes were squinted in pain and passion as you tell the story. Everything is so good. Another 2-minute wonder.

Enjoy whatever happens!

You’re channeling your inner Springsteen and it sounds good.
The backstory was very creative and entertaining.

You did an excellent job of bringing the area alive in our imagination.

Fine performances by both you the BiaB Wrecking Crew.
And an excellent mix via our monitors.

Well done and most entetaing!

Could indeed be a Bob Dean song, but your vocals are much more dramatic and desperate.
I like that a lot.
No idea how that Uber traveled back in time to when you were young, but who cares grin

Hey Floyd and Tune Monger,

Thanks so much for the good words here fellas.

Sorry for the late responses in the absence to everyone.

Been flying around the country non-stop here and there and everywhere. Pretty busy summer but I'll try and get caught up soon !!
