Scrolling Zombies

Caveat: Weird write and the occasional overly abstract line.
So there smile

When not biking or hiking we like to walk around the beautiful campus of our local university and that inspired this write. The number of tracks exceeded our mix pay grade level (12) and the mastering was a challenge due to how different the intro/verse 1 are from the remainder of the tune. Having blathered all that thanks for your time if you choose to listen and comments are welcome. And we thank Peter for the 5 acoustic and electric tracks and PG Music for the session guys. Lyrics are below the tech stuff.

Janice: vocals, arrangement, progression and mix
Peter: acoustic/electric guitar tracks, tag effect and mix counsel
Bud: lyric, arrangement, mix, mastering and cover art (ole skool 10 year old editor)

Vocal: Rhodes NT1 > Scarlett Interface > Logic Pro > Nectar

Drums: RealDrumsBluesRock > Waves CLA Drums
(multiple fill comping and building from hits)
From above kit:
Snare: Waves Magma BBT > Ozone Impact > Neutron > Logic ChromaVerb
Cymbal: Logic ChromaVerb
Kick: Waves CLA Drums

Bass: RealTrack 564 Electric, Blues Monday > Logic EQ > RX 8 De-click > Logic ChromaGlow

Rhythm Guitar: RealTrack 1924 Electric TexasBluesRockSlow DI > Logic Pro Pawn Shop Distort Amp Sim

Piano: MIDI SuperTrack 2845 Rhythm BluesSlowSwing > Logic Vintage Upright > Waves CLA Unplugged

Mastering: Ozone EQ > Ozone Imager > Ozone Limiter > Izotope Tonal Balance 2 > Logic Loudness Meter

Intro

V1:

relaxing in the park surrounded by roses

blue birds are singing, the leaves are swaying

I let my worries and tension slide away

enchanted by blue skies with clouds slowly dancing

Rest

Refrain:

oh no! here come the scrolling zombies

tangled in the tech gods’ web

V2
:
led by a phone like a carrot on a stick

no time to waste there’s always another app

earbuds have replaced mother nature’s call

stepping in line tap tap tap

Solo

Bridge:

Alger's Rhythm Kings lay down the beat

for Zombies who’ve passed the point of retreat

V3
:
driven by ones, zeros and pixels

buried deep in their reels and likes

no light no life in their staring eyes

up down left right go the finger swipes

Refrain

Outro solo

What an optimistic view of the future! (joking, of course!*)
Wonderful track, great idea for the lyric, and produced so well--and that "scary" guitar solo stretch and final moan--perfect.
Excellent performances, and top=notch use of BIAB. Loved it!

*Soon as they get serious about family life, they'll get straightened out quick!

Hi, J&B.

Hehehe.

Maybe those zombies are listening to your Soundcloud page? That would explain why they're so entranced. wink

Spooky fun, even if it's still summertime!

The mix sounds good, and the leads (vocal and guitar) sound great as usual. Love the silliness at the end.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!...HA!

Much scarier than any zombie movie 'cause it's REAL! smile

Insanely inventive and TOTALLY enjoyable.

Cool write, fab vocals, scary guitars and taut mix. (Not "taught mix". That would be weird)

Yep, that about does it...GREAT JOB ALL!!

Janice, Bud & Peter,

This is one of the coolest things that I have ever heard on the forum. I love the concept, arrangement, awesome mix and otherworldly (pun intended) vocal by Janice. The falsetto, bends, slides; it's all there - a fun and creative delivery.

The band and mix is rich, layered and saturated. Love it! Peter shines again with his guitar!

A new favorite for me! So well done by all!

Thank you big time. We could not have hoped for more. Bud was a bit apprehensive about the production and this first review meant a lot.

Hugely appreciated!

J&B

PS Hopefully they’ll get straightened out but we’ve seen some adults following their screen too.

Brilliant song and them! A line form one of my written songs I wish I could record right now is "But now I'm gone you're all alone, living in your mobile phone". laugh Love those solos too.

This really resonated with me. I didn't want to turn into a geezer griping about the youth of today, but I've no choice. Their music stinks, their phonelives stink, it drives me nuts. "Alger's Rhythm Kings" deserves a special award IMHO. Great work all the way around with this one, hats off to the entire team!

Yep it's real indeed. Heh yesterday we saw one walking up some steep steps -- never a glance down. smile

Very creative. A true statement piece of the tragedy of the tech-trance. Janice, are you the reincarnation of Annie Ross?

Janice, Bud & Peter, What an outstanding original concept.
I really liked Peter's guitar (especially at the ending) and Janice's vocal (loved those scary oohs)
Really great arrangement and mix
The lyrics are so true, I have seen some close calls and accidents with kids paying more attention to their phones than their surroundings.
Loved it!

Bob, we sincerely appreciate your time to listen and write such a thoughtful review. You mentioned every thing we could have hoped to achieve. And Janice really appreciated your comments regarding her otherworldly vocals! She loves to play act. 😀

Thank you!

🧟 🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♂️

First off, "Scrolling Zombies" is a stroke of genius! It's like a Gen-Z "Thriller," but instead of werewolves, we're facing the anxiety of endless feeds.

Janice, . Your vocals are a pure comedic gold! That "tap tap tap" could win awards for "Most Relatable Sound Effect of the 21st Century." And the "Ooo's" drip with enough playful irony to make Oscar Wilde blush. Your vocal performance is a masterclass in sardonic delivery! 🎤 👩 𝐒𝐭✰𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥

Bud, my friend, your production is tighter than a zombie's grip on a smartphone. 📱 Your lyrics are sharper than a cracked phone screen. "Earbuds have replaced mother nature's call" should be printed on protest signs, hung in art galleries, or, at the very least, tweeted ironically from an iPhone. It's a succinct and devastating diagnosis of our tech-addled times. 👋

Now, about those guitar solos,... Look, I'm torn. Peter... they're fantastic! Like a caffeinated guitar hero trying to wake up the comatose masses. But, selfishly, I was SO engrossed in Janice's lyrical takedown that I secretly wished for one more verse! It's like choosing between a winning lottery ticket and a lifetime supply of pizza. (◔_◔)🎸🍕

In short, this song is a masterpiece! It's the kind of tune that makes you laugh, cry (mostly from realizing it's true), and then immediately hide your phone in a drawer before joining a Luddite commune. Seriously, you guys are a songwriting dream team, and I salute your collective brilliance... before I get sucked back into the infinite scroll. 📜

My ears and my ever-shortening attention span thank you. 💯💥 👋👌👍

WOOOOOWWW. This is fantastic right from the title. Dang, I love how you sing this one, Janice --scary good. Peter, you slay those zombified scrollers with your saber-like stings. Extraordinary lyrics, and I say Bud deserves much higher pay cuyz he sure made the grade and raised the bar with this one. Janice, you are scary. This one should be piped into every campus in the country.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Brilliant — from conception to execution; from beginning to infinity (and beyond).
Amazing guitar shreds and Janice's vocals were the perfect vehicle for those zany yet insightful lyrics.
