End of the midsummer break, start of new music.

Link: At Home (Alternative Version)

This is a rewrite/remake of a song I posted here a while back.
I wanted to have something operatic, and be a bit over the top.
Church organ and Cello through guitar amp and stuff.
To quote Daft Punk: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

Maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I (almost) always like the results when I step out of my comfort zone.
You can discover strange things out there.
And learn a lot!

Some background information that no one asked for:

  • There are a lot of guitars in there, I had to go really crazy with the EQ to make everything work.
Drastically increasing frequencies instead of cutting away goes against common sense and what is
normally taught, but - hey, whatever works.
  • Suno has a new feature called "Cover" that allows you to upload your own melody to let it cover your song.
Since the lyrics are mine anyway it's now possible to copyright a song even when Suno was used in the process.

Some technical information:
Style: _TINES.STY

The band:
Drums: NashvilleRadioPowerBallad16, Metal8ths, Suno

Guitars: (most re-amped)
699
4387
4388 2x
Yours Truly 5x
Suno 1x

Synths+Piano: Me, 1742

Vocals: Suno

You can find the lyrics in the next post.

Title: At Home (Alternative Version)

In the embrace of twilight
The river weeps
Whispers softly to the night
Moonlit tears on the shore of life
Forever
Forever

Eternal pain
The trauma of my life
The loneliness
Is deep in my heart
Dark black rain
Is all I can see deep inside

Why are you drawn to the darkness?
I see you drowned in the void
Can't feel your dreams at night
Where do you go?
I can't follow you any more
I'm losing you

I'm flying home where I belong
Where I feel at home
At peace with myself
Alone at home

The echoes of my laughter
Fade like shadows in the night
Like footprints in the sand
They never last

A shattered mirror, a fractured mind
Like puzzle pieces misaligned
Memories warped, deceptive truth
Chasing rainbows of my youth

I'm flying home where I belong
Where I feel at home
At home with myself
Alone at home

Why are you drawn to the darkness?
What are the things you see?
You can't go on like this
Pitch black night
Is all around you and your mind
There's no coming back

I'm flying home where I belong
Where I feel at home
At peace with myself
Alone

Home where I belong
Where I feel at home
At home with myself
At home

Very emotive and great movement. I really liked this (as much as I hate to admit that I liked a Suno vocal!). Are the lyrics also AI or are they yours?

Very impressive piece of music! I'm pretty much blown away by what is possible these days with Suno, amazing technology.

Good write, I especially like:

"A shattered mirror, a fractured mind
Like puzzle pieces misaligned".

Excellent job on the mix too, great sounding track.

Powerful. Draws the listener in immediately and there's no escape until it all ends (perhaps a little too abruptly - repeated echoes fading might have worked better).
The vocals and the excellent instrumentation have a kind of Enya-esque feel to them. Well done.

I don't remember the first version of the song but this one is absolutely solid.

I've seen that "cover" is a feature of Suno..... That is impressive. I let my subscription expire before they introduced it. I might have to do a month to see what it is capable of..... 😉.

Until I read that this was Suno, I was highly impressed with the vocal thinking it was Synth V........ especially where she held that high note followed by some vocal fry coming back in. I always seem to have quality issues with Synth V on the high end and was wondering how you overcame that.... Ok. it's not synth V.

Really good job all around.

I'm more coffee than tea these days, but this is definitely my cup of coffee. What a fine production. Love how you fashioned the vocals, and the dynamics you've used, Brain. Excellent lyrics --as always. Man, you used some terrific instruments to punch this one along. I said "fine" production when I must've meant "outstanding."

Enjoy whatever happens!

B.D., super composition, and nicely arranged. Love the pulsing mix and use of space. Great Suno vocals, too. Unique musical vision, and nicely translated into a very appealing song. Well done!

Yes, the lyrics are mine.
I love writing lyrics (and poetry in general) and the feeling when (hopefully) everything fits together in the end, even if it's sometimes a bit difficult because I'm not a native speaker.

I tried ChatGPT because everyone raved about it, but the way it phrases things is so different from the way I express myself that I never liked the result.

Brilliant song and sound, B.D.! The vocals are outstanding, particularly at the start. Previously I felt you were the only person to get good results out of SynthV with Goldmania Bella songs, but this is another level with Suno. When you wrote that Suno allows you to upload your own melody, do you meant the notation or an audio file?

Hi, B.D.

Very cool! smile

Your writeup sent me down a rabbit hole finding about Suno's "Cover" feature, which has been there for a number of months. I'm not sure how close the "Cover" is to the original (it seems like Suno takes liberties), but it makes for a very compelling performance.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thank you, Dave!
I often describe my writing process as "putting all these little pieces together until everything fits nicely and the big puzzle is solved".
The lines you quoted were the very last ones written for the song lyrics smile

A powerful song with great Suno vocals!

I like how you paused the instruments for a couple of bars while the vocals continued unaccompanied. It was a nice touch.

Excellent write and production, well done!

That's exactly why I used the cover function. If you want some drama in the highest notes, Synth V is still a little lacking.
Synth V Felicia is pretty good up there, but her tone doesn't always supports the song.
Here's a song I made with her that sounds okay: Wrong

Had an Evanescense feel to me, really liked it and was impressed with how you put all the many musical elements together. Great work.

B.D. this is epic!
What an outstanding arrangement
I loved that vocal and lyrics.
Outstanding backing tracks
IMHO this is something at Queen could have done.
Loved it.
