Hi everyone! While my song "My Secrets" is still on the forum, I also released this one. As if we weren't busy enough with all our songs... I made it when I was feeling a bit depressed about all the tension in our lives, personally or in the world. And I thought everything always repeats itself. Why can't we learn from it? But to end on a lighter note: it's also just a nice song, and you might even like it! It's called Round and Round https://on.soundcloud.com/v4eN96djqywvzEt8reThe lyrics are on SoundCloud, let me know what you think of it, Hans ============================================================== Supplement I forgot to mention the instruments and fx I used in this song. Hans, what an outstanding song. Loved the arrangement and production. Your vocal was very strong and the lyrics were great. Super backing band and mix. Loved it

Hi Hans! That chorus is very catchy and, like the theme of the song, I’m glad that it repeats. Some of your lyric imagery is intriguing and several lines could be a verse in themselves - but less is more and you leave the listener wanting more. The only arrangement or mix comment I’d give is that the guitar is sometimes competing in the same space as the vocal, so maybe put it more to one side and bring it back to centre for the solo. I’ll listen again later today through my monitors rather than my airbuds. Great song! Edit: I listened again and the mix was not so much an issue with the guitars, so maybe it was more to do with my familiarity of your song. Love the song even more the second time ‘round! Andrew

There's some great instrumentation and original arrangement in this song. It sounds like it's made for a forum user collaboration: Janice on vocals, Dave Bell lead guitar and Marty on bass.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hans, you're becoming the forum's most prolific philosopher-rocker! Just when I'd almost finished dissecting your fabulous "My Secrets," you drop another cosmic truth bomb wrapped in a rock anthem.
"Round and Round" is an absolute triumph of turning a profound sense of 'déjà vu, but make it rock' into a compelling narrative. The way you articulate the cyclical nature of life, love, and humanity's endless loop of repeating mistakes – all while maintaining a killer melodic hook – is genius. You've somehow managed to make the philosophical equivalent of a hamster wheel feel utterly epic. I particularly loved lines like "A preacher speaks, but the winds already know" and "we wrote our names in melting snow" – perfect blends of cynicism, poetic observation, and a good dose of 'why can't we just learn, people?!'
Your songs of late tackle the Big Questions with a rock 'n' roll swagger that makes pondering the futility of existence sound surprisingly enjoyable. Your social commentary as a creator of true art is incredibly important!!! (To me at least).
You mentioned it came from a place of "tension and repetition," and frankly, you've nailed that vibe with admirable style. It's got that classic rock feel that makes even existential gloom sound like something you could pump your fist to. The way you weave that "round and round" motif through the lyrics and the music is masterful – it's catchy, it's thoughtful, and it definitely resonates with the feeling of life's endless loop. You've managed to turn a potentially heavy topic into a track that's both reflective and genuinely head-banging. Your songwriting is sharp, and the production really supports the mood without getting bogged down. Now, for my only minor quibble – and I mean minor, like finding a single rogue glitter flake on a masterpiece – those guitars are having such a fantastic time, they're almost getting a little cozy with the vocals in the mix. If you could pan those bad boys just a touch wider, give them a bit more stereo breathing room, I think your vocals would have even more space to carve out their own glorious path. It's like they're all vying for the spotlight – a bit more separation for those axe-wielders would give your excellent voice the royal carpeting it deserves. But honestly, that's just me nitpicking at the edges of a really solid track. Fantastic work, Hans! Keep 'em coming
best regards Izzy.

POWERFUL!! If I heard this song coming, I'd step out of the way --and then follow it wherever it went. What a strong production, and always extraordinary vocals. I'm always impressed with your abilty to bring in dynamic break-downs, then follow with even stronger enthusiasm. Good write, and excellent production and mix. Love those lyrics, Hans.

We enjoyed our carousel ride with your song. Janice was imagining the ups and down of the pretty painted ponies as we went round and round.
We love this line: “And round and round we go That’s the truth all dreamers know”
Your write up reminded us of the old adage: “those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it.”
Standout vocals!
Great band … all BiaB? Excellent punchy mix.
Enjoyed it!

Hans,
This is, without question for me, your best song since you've been on the forum. The music is great - the varying intensity is dynamic. Your vocal is excellent.
Love the big drums and bass line - they really drive the song. This song is so good in so many ways.
Rock on!

Hans, very cool rocker! That's a neat opening, and then...bam! Really takes off from there. Super backing tracks and mix. Stupendous vocals, as usual.
Is this a BiaB backing track? I don't recognize those guitars, though they sound quite nice, and pair with your song perfectly.
If I could sing like you I would have had a much less boring life, but probably fewer guitars. Life is sometimes about compromises, isn't it?

Hans, as I think you know, you and I are on the same page world-view wise, so of course I loved this! I do think this has a special energy that makes it one of your best. And, it has some of your best lyrics. OTOH, a few listeners have noted that the guitars are competing with the vocals. I agree with this. It's really not a major issue when one realizes how much energy this song generates, but if it could be mixed with some separation of elements in mind, it would be even better. But let me affirm: it's great as is. A triumph!!

Hi, Hans. Nice write. Is any of this BiaB? I'm betting those guitars and drums aren't. That's some funky playing on the keyboards. Good singing. As always, your vocals are the best interpreter for your lyrics.

Nice prog rock. I'd like to know what tracks are what? What is you and what is BB, and what is "other"?

Hello everyone,
I want to tell you I added a supplement to my Introduction of this song, above. Janice and Bud, Ron, Rob (TM), Arri, David, and Herb all asked me about my use of BiaB and third-party instruments. So I added them all in my intro page, including where the Logic Pro loops/effects begin and how many bars I used.
I'm sorry I forgot all this. I was in a bit of a (sudden) hurry while posting the song. And I come back to all your individual posts asap!!!

Loved the energy, both in the instrumental element and the vocal...and some very nice little touches to really make it shine...I esp liked how you suspended the bass just before the chorus started--that little technique really helped emphasize the movement of the chorus once the bass kicked in again. Enjoyed it!!

Hi Mario, Andrew, Chay and Bob, Thanks for your comments on this song. Hans, what an outstanding song. Loved the arrangement and production. Your vocal was very strong and the lyrics were great. Super backing band and mix. Loved it Hi Mario, you are always so positive. I really enjoyed your comment! Andrew Hi Andrew; I listened to you and panned my guitars some more to the sides, because I think you were right. After I did so, still some mention the same issue as you did, but then I already altered that panning... Hoping you would listen again, as you did. And I was glad it was no issue for you anymore. Thanks a lot for this and your other nice comment! There's some great instrumentation and original arrangement in this song. It sounds like it's made for a forum user collaboration: Janice on vocals, Dave Bell lead guitar and Marty on bass. Hi Chat, I had to laugh at the collaboration you suggested; it's a friendly way of telling me I should just leave this song. At least, that's what came to mind (jokingly). And don't tell me it wasn't meant as a joke... Hans, Great song with a hard-hitting vocal. You and your music are in fine form these days. Loved it! Bob Hi Bob, thanks for this, but you and Joliz are doing very well too! Have a nice day, Hans

Hi Izzy, you can write so lyrically! It's wonderful how you string sentences together and the compliments you seemingly casually sprinkle throughout your prose! I thoroughly enjoyed this literary masterpiece. I let my wife read it, and I actually gained her admiration thanks to you!
Yet, I was also a little apprehensive about how seriously I should take your story. But the Dutch are very quick to do that! Anyway, thank you so much for your comment; it's framed and hanging on my attic wall ;-)

Hi Marty, Janice and Bud, Floyd and Al, I was really happy with the reactions you gave to this song! They were so encouraging that I now think I'll make more songs. I hope this is what you wanted to achieve too... And, more seriously: thanks for that! Hi Marty, I sent you a few earlier versions via WhatsApp, but you didn't respond. So I continued on my own... Later, I heard you were having problems with your PC. I also had a version with a bouzouki and a bit less heavy (!). But thanks for your kind comment. I can already see you jumping away when this songs starts playing...

Enjoyed it! J&B Hi J&B, thanks for your kind words and that old saying. I'm afraid none of us understand history, or life itself... I thought of you when I wrote that line about the dreamers. Really! I think I did, because I know you love those kinds of lines. About the band: I edited my intro page and wrote down which instruments and effects I used (not all the effects like EQ, reverb, compression, etc., but the added sounds). But most of it was BIAB. I used three pianos! Good Rocker! Excellent use of BIAB Bass and drums sound really good Terrific angry Rock vocals
Enjoyed fj Hi Floyd, Thanks a lot for your nice post! Those 'driving Pop drums' fitted really nice in this song. Glad you liked it. Hans, This is, without question for me, your best song since you've been on the forum. The music is great - the varying intensity is dynamic. Your vocal is excellent. Love the big drums and bass line - they really drive the song. This song is so good in so many ways. Rock on! Alan Hi Al, That's a nice compliment, Al! I'm not sure many do like this song as much as you do, but I'm glad you do! The first version was not at all a rocker, but a 'gentle' song with a Bouzouki. I liked it, but missed something. And then I came to this. I had some doubt about using those 'breakers' after the intro, but them liked them the most ;-) Thanks! Wish you all a very nice day! Hans
