I don't think it is coincidence that both of my audio computers started sounding odd when Windows 11 Build #25H2 was available. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've noticed that when a Windows update is available lots of Windows services get glitchy. I don't think it's a coincidence either. I usually just sigh and hit "update and restart"...

I have Win 11 Pro and that has not happened here.

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Thanks. I may have spoken too soon. Although I am fairly convinced it has happened that way before, this time after the update the sound still is crackling. I'll figure it out.

Still hunting for the definitive reason.

As happens after major Windows updates, audio devices I have disabled are turned back on (!) such as the HD driver for the speakers in my monitor that I will never use. And sometimes the ASIO buffer setting isn’t what I want.

However, I’ve fixed those and I still have cracking sound on held notes, particularly MIDI.

USB cable involved?
The wrong (cheap) USB cable on my Focusrite did that.
The factory cable did not have the issue, but I needed a longer one.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I get occasional audio distortion on a Windows 11 system. It's random, not repeatable, and occurs with both WAS and MME. It only seems to occur in BIAB and not other audio programs. I use Synthogy Ivory VSTi through the same audio interface (Focusright 18i20).

It does this with BIAB 2024 and BIAB 2025.

It's very off-putting, and I still haven't found the cause, but the common denominator is Windows 11. It never happens on my Windows 10 Professional system.

Still looking...

Only saw this now. I experienced this last week on my one PC. I "abandoned" it after struggling for about an hour to stabilise it and contuued on my second one which worked fine.

In the afternoon I retried number one and it was fine.

I concluded that it must have been a Windows 11 uodate which was running in the background and somehow hogged all the resources.

(At time Task Manager showed +-30% resource utilization)

Thanks. I am now more vigilant about what might be running in the background because you are right, it’s another something to check. I have most ‘auto updates’ off, but there are some like virus updates that can slip in. And here’s a thought: maybe it isn’t Windows, but the malware checkers checking the new version of Windows!

No issues for me.
Presonus 192 drivers?

I've recently had a very different problem. What resolved for me was going to Intel site and getting chipset drivers updated. They have a special app that scans intel hardware and offers newest software patches. You have Intel i9, maybe worth checking it out.
Windows and Lenovo updates didn't pick up items from Intel.

Thanks! That’s a great reminder, Misha. I’ve used Intel’s driver checker many times but not in around three years. I just plain forgot. I hope you will remind me in another three years😎

I have also just upgraded equipment and recycled the Presonus Studio 192 to a backup location in favor of a Presonus HD8.

Hmmm. The Intel Driver and Support Assistant (DSA) won't run on my system for reasons not well explained by the messages I'm getting. Will look at it some more.

Windows 11 services definitely slow down for me when a Windows update is available. This was true for my last two DAWs, including the current one in my signature. Restarting Windows fixes it 100% of the time, so I'm not REAL worried about it. Still, would be nice...
