In Eternity

After my previous serious and depressing song, here is something fluffy and dreamy - and much shorter smile The song idea came to me when I woke up and a song was playing in my head - a girl playing an acoustic guitar and singing the line "in eternity" - and as usually happens, I stole the idea. I don't know whose song it was or did it just exist in my dream. But I took it as a songwriting excercise to finish it. Okay, I used AI to suggest changes for the lyrics, but I used only one suggestion, modified. AI nicely summarized the theme "Is eternity a comfort or a curse?", I hope I've handled it profoundly enough.

I selected Natalie for the lead vocalist, her voice resembles the country voice from my "wakeup moment", but I had to smooth her voice and tame her vibrato quite a bit. I used version 200 and I tried the version 201, but it totally ruined the soft tone, so I had to stick with the older version. NOA Hex's calm sound brought a nice harmony alongside Natalie. I'm not totally happy about the la-la section, but I liked that melody and wanted to include it - it didn't work when played with an instrument, only with vocals, maybe it could have worked by whistling, but I don't know how to get SynthV voices to whistle.

It was easy to find the best possible BIAB instruments. The fingerpicking guitar #2932 provided nice indie mood for the song. And the acoustic soloist #3700 is always a safe bet - although I had to do quite many partial regenerations until the solo was perfect. And guzheng has a lovely sound - I like these world music RTs and hope there will be more in the future.

RealDrums: Mallet Folk Pop

RealTracks:
Acoustic bass #3119
Piano Synth Layer #1408
Acoustic guitar rhythm #2780, #4701
Acoustic guitar picking #2932
Acoustic guitar solo #3700
Guzheng #4194

Vocals: Synthesizer V Natalie & NOA Hex

Mixed in CakeWalk by BandLab (Ozone 11, Neoverb, Neutron 4, Ozone reference track: Matilda Mann - Tell Me That I'm Wrong)

Lyrics:

If there's all the time in eternity
I'll smooth my jaggedness and learn
from my past while I yearn
to be ready when you return.
If I am cursed, I repeat my mistakes
and you haven't changed, still causing me ache
we promise each other a brighter start
and keep on dreaming when we drift apart.

In eternity, is there longing for love,
diary dreams, elusive fantasies
questions who's meant for me, eternally?

What if there's no time in eternity
would I live in infinite regret
chances missed, can't forget
heartbreaks woven into a net.
if I am blessed, we will hover in love
and you'll always be my peaceloving dove
in eternal embraces and endless fun
would they be just for the chosen ones?

In eternity, is there longing for love,
diary dreams, elusive fantasies
questions who's meant for me, eternally?

The beauty of chance encounters
and the falling for casual gestures
are they solace I crave
or wounds abyss can't erase?
in eternity, in eternity.

Janne, I absolutely loved this, both musically and lyrically. The melody was memorable and the lyrics broach a subject we should all think about. Eternity, if it exists, might not be all that great. Lots to consider when one gets past the christian concept most of us have grown up with. Getting back to the music, everything was great, even the Lalalas. Speaking of, you did a wonderful job with the synth vocal. I thought 'jaggedness' might throw it a loop, but no problems - even the prosody was good on that word. And I always give bonus points for using world instruments. I often hope for songwriting inspiration from my dreams, but it hasn't happened yet. Glad it worked for you!

You found some really cool instruments that support the song very well.
The work you put into the guitar-solo was worth it, the solo is awesome.
I love the vocals, Natalie and Noa harmonize really well together.
Really well done [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Hi Janne!
This is one of those songs that yells out for multiple listens to become familiar with the melody and harmonic choices. I don’t mind that - as opposed to a song that becomes too familiar in one listen. The doubled and harmony vocals in the chorus give a good lift, and the la la la section - I didn’t mind because it displayed the melody in its fullness. Good choice of solo guitar. I enjoyed this - twice!

Janne, love it when inspiration arrives in a dream. What a song! Very cool harmonic flow and instrument arrangement. Nice instrument choices. I had to Google "guzheng" though. Ha! Vocals are very nice. I don't find Natalie very country, but then I AM country, so may be biased. Either way, she and the other vocalists sound GREAT throughout. You're using a lot of reverb, but it's just right, and serves the song while providing a "dreamy" ambience. A very artfully composed song.

Super positive message in this song, entirely in keeping with "The World's Happiest Country". smile

Nice work.
I though the cadence on "to be ready when you return." made the rhyme seem a little clunky. Had the voice moved down I think it'd have sounded better.
Nevertheless a REALLY cool production.

Wow, you have a powerful muse, Janne. And we here benefit from your recognizing her.

Can't image in the art of selecting the right Natalie(s), but you obviously have a knack for it. And although you say it was easy, you have a knack for using the best RTs to accompany "her." Man, right from the Intro those guitars lay the foundation of what's to come, and what comes next is a well-crafted melody and a pleasent mix. So well produced. Man, those lyrics are stupendous. {especially the "la-la-la"s --haha}

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks TM for your encouraging and positive review of my little song smile Glad you shared your thoughts about eternity as well, it is always nice to speculate about subject that is purely speculative smile I was smiling at what you said about 'jaggedness' - when I listened to the song, that word was the most difficult one to "hear", so nice to read that the prosody was good after all.

Thanks BD for your kind words smile Glad you thought the solo is awesome, thanks to BIAB for that. And the regeneration feature, although sometimes it requires really many trials and if nothing else works, then the use of Melodyne. One AI feature I wish there was in BIAB would be a larger variation for solos, or even generating amazing solos from a simple MIDI melody in the style of some RealTrack - AI powered playable RealTracks.

Janne, an outstanding job on those synth voices. Great backing band, super guitar lead. Mixed to perfection.
I really liked this one.

I'm no longer allowed to go caroling at the psych hospital.
I guess Do You Hear What I Hear was a bad song choice!

Janne, I really enjoyed listening to this project..esp the interesting melody/chord structure..kept my attention throughout. And as others have said, your handling of the vocals is admirable—I wish I could get Synth V to sound that great! Excellent production, and super-fine work!!

Hi Janne, this is a very lovely song!
But still a bit sad (and dreamy) but not fluffy at all.
Good use of the instruments, I liked them all!!!

The vocals are very nice and the harmonies are well. Really well!
Still I have some questions. The lead vocals worked a bit distracting in my head. I think I would have prevered a female vocal with a lower pitch. But that is my personal opinion.
The second question is about the build up of the song, or at least in certain parts of the song, like starting with "If I am cursed, I repeat my mistakes
and you haven't changed, still causing me ache. We promise each other a brighter start. Good lyrics, but you go low on those parts and -indeed- a bit dreamy.
I was wondering if it benefits the song when you go louder/higher on those parts, to create some 'tension'?

So, nothing wrong with the song, just some thoughts...

Bye,
Hans
