Hi Gang, I cross posted this to the YouTube video on all the features that just came out. Here is the concern or question:
There was one brief comment about the AI assisted audio to MIDI and then to transcription feature. I noted that there was no mention of guitar or bass TAB creation, just standard notation, BUT it was mentioned that the guitar fretboard might show the transcription playing. If so, then TAB could easily be created by the user. SO - can BIAB 2026 create guitar or bass guitar TAB or show the notes playing on a fretboard? Thanks.

BIAB has been able to convert MIDI notation to guitar tab for quite a while.
1) Try loading or entering some MIDI onto the Melody track (the sixth track down in the mixer). I suggest working with a single melody line to start with. 2) Select "Melody | Track Type | Guitar (standard tuning)" from the top menu. 3) Open editable notation mode.
You should see the melody transcribed as tab. This ability is also available on the Soloist track (the seventh track down in the mixer).

Moonbeam, Yes, in addition to the info above , when you do a transcription, there is a field of the type of notation you want; Generic Drums Guitar Bass Piano
If you choose Guitar, the result will be on guitar channels, and do its best to show in a realistic to play fret positions.
We also added menu items to the tracks menu, so for any track - track settings- edit midi - menu we have options to - rechannelize to guitar strings. (Maps to play on a guitar fretboard - rechannelize to bass. (Maps to play in bass fretboard) - rechannelize to piano. (Splits left/right hand piano)
Each of these runs the track through an intelligent routine to play on the fretboard/ keyboard shown
Note that for guitar music, the guitar in screen will show any track, and if there isn’t any guitar channel info, it will just show at the current fret position, which is a little icon on the bottom of the guitar fretboard, where you can click to change it as the song plays.
I followed Noels instruction using the Carol of the Bells audio track that I used the new Notes AI to transcribe to midi. Wait for it........

Hi All, I have a question about the AI-Notes feature in Band-in-a-Box 2026. In the documentation I see that AI-Notes can transcribe selected instruments such as drums, bass, guitars/piano, and vocals. Is the saxophone supported as a separate instrument for transcription?
If not, how does AI-Notes treat a saxophone part in a polyphonic audio file? Does it attempt to extract it as a melodic line, or is it grouped with other instruments (e.g., guitars/piano)?
In a polyphoinc audio file ALL the notes will be treated as the same instrument. They will not be separated out in the transcription. If there are more than one instrument it will need to be isolated (Stem Separation) before any individual instruments contribution to the mix can be transcribed. In the case of the Piano in Carol of the Bells this was solo piano on a .mp3 file. No stem separation was done. I think this was the same case for the horn which as played solo. Does that answer your question.
