Have come across a new error message that I haven't seen before. Downloaded some MIDI's off the internet and when I open them in RB I get the following error: Chord Wizard...Range Check Error. If I then try to save the file as an SEQ, it crashes RB with the same error.

Anyone seen this one before? Any ideas on how to correct it?

Many thanks!

Jeff

Jeff, could you upload the MIDI file to somewhere and someone could test it. Potentially, it's likely that the MIDI file itself could be corrupt.

Rharv, I'm using 2025 RB when I get this error. Have not tried it on 2026 yet.

Sure. I'll try that once I'm back in the studio, better yet, I'll give you the exact web location so you can download it your self and see if there are any problems with the site. The odd thing it that the file loads and displays properly on all the tracks. I've tried to run the Chord Wizard and can get the chords but when I try to save the file as a SEQ, it crashes RB.

The file is the song "Hello Mom and Dad, We're coming home for Christmas" by A. Frank Willis.

Rather than copying the file, I wanted to be sure that you are getting the same file I'm having problems with, you can access the original file on the MidKar.com site at www.midkar.com/Holidays/christmas/christmas_05.html

Look down the left side for the song "We're Coming Home for Christmas, Hello Mom and Dad"

Interesting Christmas song that I've never heard before.

Thanks for you help guys.

Hold on a minute, I just down loaded the file again after deleting the original on my drive. Now, no problems. Must have corrupted it some how myself. But all is good now! Maybe you guys might like it for your Christmas songs collections. Enjoy.

Spoke too soon guys! Even though I can download the file from the link provided above and save it in RB as an SEQ, if I make any changes to the SEQ file I get the Range Check error and it crashes RB.

To duplicate,

1. download the file from the link I provided
2. Open the file and save it as a SEQ file
3. Make any change you want, such as simply changing the name in the upper right corner of RB
4. Try to save the file...this is where I get the Range Check error and the exception notice that RB has crashed due to a Range Check error.

I'm wanting to slice and dice this MIDI file by copying some MIDI info in the middle of the file and adding it to the end of the file to make up for the fact that the original cuts off several verses. Not that this is a critical file but I'm trying to learn how to splice MIDI files together and not having much luck. While I can do this to other MIDI files, this one is a particular challenge.

Any thoughts on why I'm getting a Range Check error with any modifications?

Jeff

I think I found the problem! My RB Backup directory had over 1100 files in it. Once I deleted those everything seems to be working and saving correctly with all edits. Don't know why this would cause that problem, but it seem to have solved it.

For future reference, it's the directory: RBBACKUP with files of the format *.BKS

Might be a good idea for others who have unexplained issues to check the number of files in the RB Backup directory.

I'll mark the thread resolved.

Thanks for all of your help guys.

Jeff
