I just logged into the "My Presonus" account and I see that Presonus Studio One is now Fender Studio Pro (with the release of Fender Studio Pro version 8). I have the subscription, so I'll get all the new stuff. Getting ready to download and take a look at it.

Yes, a huge surprise. I write in Notion 6 for Desktop, and that was just announced as discontinued. I’m not convinced Fender’s notation will have all the features. The mobile app does not.

I’m a beta tester. We had no warning.

I sometimes use Notion 6 also. I'll look for the discontinuation notice. Do you know if they will remove activation (in the event of re-installation, or will it just become a dead product - just because it's discontinued doesn't mean it shouldn't continue to work, right?)

Notion 6 didn’t need reauthorization when ported over on my Mac using Migration Assistant. That said, it was never fully 64bit so some functions haven’t worked in years. We were promised Notion 7 “soon” in 2021 so the upgrade is only 4+ years late. Fender bought Presonus November 2021. Only the iPad and iOS versions have remained current.

Desktop notation apps haven’t made money in years on their own. All of the current serious offerings are tied to other products—or that’s the plan in the case of Dorico/Steinberg/Yamaha. You want MusicXML in Pro Tools—gotta have Sibelius. MuseScore is free as it’s the gateway to Muse Group, the Russian concern based in Cyprus fueled by Ultimate Guitar that paid 10 figures to acquire Hal Leonard in a cash deal. The real money in the music industry is Publishing. Why Peaksware didn’t do the same with Finale to feed Alfred Publishing/MakeMusic Online in the same fashion is anyone’s guess but they allowed Finale to go under—may have something to do with the 10s of users who frequent the support boards. There are a few one-person shops out there but none of their offerings are worth mentioning. I’ve not heard from Don Williams about Encore in awhile and he’s not returned my calls—it will surprise me if anything happens there.

Fender didn’t show at NAMM year before last and was there last year by appointment only last year. Next week I’ll be down in Anaheim and will see if they how they are pushing this rebranding of Presonus. Perhaps I’ll learn if they intend to upgrade Notion. Not holding out hope.

Update: I just read today's announcement. When Notion 7 for the desktop is released, it will be folded into the Studio Pro subscription—no permanent license. Oh goody...

Since Notion 6 for Mac was never updated to be able to use use 64bit VIs in the last 4+ years, Fender lost any chance of seeing more money from me for what has essentially been deadware.

I still use Notion for iPadOS. I wasn't happy when it became a separate product from Notion for iOS after Fender bought Presonus so have only kept the ipad version up to date.

I haven’t read today’s announcement?

What I read yesterday was about being able to authorize a reinstall to a new computer, restoring authorizations, stuff like that.

I’ll wait until the dust settles.

The offer of a 'Perpetual License' for Fender Studio Pro is quite appealing. The subscription model has never appealed to me.

Certainly they have done some excellent work with the UI.

Yesterday it was clear that there would be no update of Notion desktop! I need to get home and read today’s news.

I'd always liked Notion, and hoped it would be eventually supported again.

It seems that's not to be. frown

The the only time I authorized Notion 6 was on my 2010 iMac, four computers ago. It opens fine today, knows where all my old files are and pops my license info when I click on Activation. This is the first time I've opened it on my Mac Studio that I purchased in 2023.

As I mentioned before, I used Apple's Migration Assistant to bring it over each time, either from the older Mac or a Time Machine backup. The license screen has never appeared asking for re-authorization. However, when I clicked on Receive Licenses on the Software Activation screen, it connected and gave me a Success message. I've not tried it on my Tahoe test Volume yet.

This tells me the license file is stored locally and transferred each time. It would surprise me if the same is not true for the PC and once you know the correct file name and paths, restoring it to a new machine should be easy.

Upgraded to version 8 of Fender Studio Pro, easy-peezy and it seamlessly launched the project I was working on just like previous versions would.

The GUI looks basically the same but one feature caught my eye.
The metronome has been updated from a simple tick-tock time keeper to a full drum kit that can be instantly saved as a track which is smart enough to adjust it's tempo to what your project is set to. You can also specify it to play half-time, normal or double-time . . . pretty cool stuff!

I watched the overview video. Remember, I am a Reaper Guy so I don't have any hands on knowledge Studio Pro. So with that understanding, I can tell you I didn't see anything I liked! Looked like a bunch of blote-ware. But of course that could just be me.

Dan...

My interest is the new Fender audio interfaces. With 75 DB gain microphone preamps but I can't find the latency figures of these interfaces.
They look really nice.

Like you I'm a Reaper user version two believe it or not and I use real band and band in a box of course as my.go to apps.of course
It's all I need to do what I want.

Frankly I don't like subscription approaches for daws..

I wonder what the presonus products will be now.

You’re not going to. Fender wants you to use a software app called Universal Control. It’s similar to apps used to compensate for latency but this it’s a whole lot more. Without it, many of the advertised features of the hardware will not work. Per the manual:

Quote
Low-latency monitoring - Using Universal Control eliminates the latency associated with DAW I/O buffering that makes
monitoring problematic for the performer. By removing the DAW’s software input monitoring feature from the monitoring signal flow
altogether, the need to adjust I/O buffer sizes and latency is no longer an issue.

• Send / Cue buses - Universal Control has stereo aux buses, with independent send levels
per input.
• Configuration management - Universal Control configurations can be saved and loaded to / from disk

The generation of chips being used since 2019 have lowered hardware latency to the theoretical limit. This appears to be a new chip series with increased gain and 32 bit resolution (but not 32 bit float) but no one using it is publishing the hardware latency.

I expect that next week at NAMM I’ll be seeing more interfaces like this. Last two years, Fender showed only to their dealers but not to the general show attendees. It will be interesting to see if that changes this year.

Notion 6 will work the same in Studio Pro as it did in Studio One.

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

Yes its nice and it can handle more complex signatures like 12/8 Where you have the option of how to count it.
The Chord track has an Assistant that will statistically recommend next chords.
It uses the same audio to MIDI libraries from Z-Plane that BIAB uses, but it is extremely straightforward and easy to use.
The GUI, believe it or not, was almost completely redone with dozens and dozens of subtle changes to improve workflow.
It has nice Fender modeled Amp Simulators for both Guitar and Bass.

12/8 and other complex time sigs? I didn't notice that.

I did see a mention of Extract Notes and Extract Drums features, does this mean Melodyne is dead?
And yes, I'm looking forward to using Fenders bass amp models.

From what I understand from Joe Gilder, the fear of the Fender "Suits" coming in and destroying Studio One never materialized. They actually wear blue jeans and are accomplished muscians in their own right and more importantly, understand that the team in Germany know what they are doing regarding GUIs, DAW features, AI and workflow; I guess time will give the final answer on whether they let the dev team continue to do their thing. I wonder if they'll announce anything at NAMM..

FWIW, a couple years back Presonus killed their support forum, but no worries, what replaced it, imho, is better. The folks that engage on the new forum are extreamly knowledgable and articulate and operate at very high levels. I've learned a lot from just lurking over there.

Studio One Forum
1) From the manual: In Fender Studio Pro, the beat duration divides a measure into musically meaningful divisions. To select a different beat duration, edit or insert a time signature and select the beat duration in the new time signature selector. There are four beat duration options to choose from (half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth). By default, the beat duration is set to a quarter note for simple time signatures, and a dotted quarter note for compound time signatures. Alternatively, the current beat duration can be edited by clicking on the new beat duration indicator next to the tempo in the transport bar:

2) No Melodyne is not dead by any stretch of the imagination. It is still used for tuning, harmonizing and tempo mapping.

3) The Amp Sims are a higher quality than what was in Studio One but they're not the same algorithms as the high resolution $1800 Fender Tone Master.

4) It definitely has the fender branding everywhere now, But is developed by the same German developers as always And still heavily focuses on workflow.

5) yes well I was a moderator in the old forum for seven years. Many of my handbooks and deeper explain manuals did not get transferred to the new forum. The new form is run by customers just like you and I (Lukas) with QA guy from Presonus Software Limited (Ari) . Presonus like all software companies with the exception of PGM and Reaper have given up support via forums Instead use social media as it is much faster and hits a larger audience. i'm glad you like it.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
