The only safe way a device is protected from a lightning strike is not attached to a power source. The high voltage and current can jump across a on/off switch with no problem. I learned that in my old day-job, when I tried to quit music. I saw a few others, but the one I explained in an earlier post was perhaps the most extensive. That's why when I'm not home, when I'm sleeping or when there are thunderstorms in the area, the computer, TV, and small appliances are off and unplugged. It's an ounce of prevention.

I will point out that the macOS treats these issues differently and, except for shutting down and restarting, the solutions offered here haven't been applicable for years. Rather than hijack this thread about Windows, I suggest that Mac users head over to the Macintosh users board to discuss this.

I shut my computer fully down when I'm not using it mostly because, I think to myself, I know what it's like to feel like you are sleeping very shallowly and wake up feeling like you didn't actually sleep. I know computers and people are different but I like to give my computer a break. I'm fortunate that my computer reboots and is functional in about a second. I don't have to really wait for it to power on.
Thankfully lightning storms aren't really something we see where we are. Since I moved here 15 or so years ago I think I have seen lightning once or twice. Still, you can never be too careful.

Work for days on a song hoping for constructive comments and instead? Well it’d be the FB thing where you need not even read the post to respond - I mean react. Forums used to dominate the music world. I’m glad PG Music has kept their’s alive. Pardon the ole guy ramble. 😀
