I am using this to practice timing with. How can I get a loud metronome sound to click throughout. I can barely hear the native metronome at level 127.

Thanks.
Michael

In RB I use a MIDI track and add PGPeakLimit to it (on it's own instance of a synth)

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Hi Michael.

While others might know how to make the metronome louder in BIAB, I'm not sure how to do it.

That's why, like rharv, I looked at the metronome in Realband. Realband's metronome can be written to a track with a simple click, and that track can then be controlled by its own volume control. This may well be enough for you.

[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

What I did was...

1) I clicked on the metronome, select "Metronome Settings" and then wrote the metronome to one of the empty tracks (I chose Track 14).

[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

2) Then I solo'd the track and saved it as a wma file. (You could also right-click on the track and choose "Auto-convert individual MIDI track to audio track".)
3) Next, I imported the wma file and loaded the Peak Limit plugin that rharv mentioned onto that track.
4) Lastly, I raised the Pre-Gain of the Peak Limit plugin.

That gave really good results.

Thanks. I did what Noel said and it worked. However, I want to save that track LOUD in a manner that allows me to import it into any project I am working on. Is it possible to do that? Because when I export the file or save it in any fashion, yes I can import it. But Noel's volume changes are gone. I'm back to the almost-silent ticking. I'd like to be able to stick this particular track into a project with the volume enhanced.

Thanks again.

FWIW:

1- Can you save it as a template? That is record only the metronome then save it as a song, maybe call it template. For every new project bring up the metronome only song first, then add your other tracks. Just be sure to save as because if you don't you will overwrite the metronome only song.

2-Save the metronome track as a wav and bring it into you project? Then can you have that wav track follow a tempo track? I don't use RB so I don't know however I know that I can do that in Fender Studio Pro 8 DAW.

Life is short so make sure you spend as much time as possible on the Internet arguing with strangers.

While the track is a MIDI track, change all velocities to 127
I also change the sound to a side stick so it cuts thru better (channel 10 Eb2 or 3 I believe)

Lastly you can use AutoConvert MIDI track to Audio
Apply the PGPeakLimit and then SOLO that track and Merge to a WAV file to keep it loud in other DAWs.

/Uncheck Solo after

Or just apply a Limiter on the track in the other DAW
I would assume IT also has a way of making a track louder.

Depends on the work flow.

I use a file I made called Click.MID
It is a sidestick on the 1/4 note .. most DAWs (including RB) allow putting some boost plugin (like Limiter or Compressor) on a MIDI track
Easily imports into any DAW as a MIDI track
Again, just decide the workflow that is best for you.

http://masteringmatters.com/stuff2/click.MID

Link is not secure, but it's just exactly what I described above, if that's an issue I can move it to a secure site, but that's just more work to give work away

Harv: This is way over my head. I am creating a midi file in RealBand. I convert that within RealBand to an audio track. I apply the plugins thing. The sound is fine. I also have a metronome bell on the downbeat and sidesticks on the rest. Sounds good.

But then I export the file out to my drive (I want to save the file so that I never have to do this again) and then all the volume enhancements, sidesticks, etc. disappear magically. I am right back to the weak click where I started.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Don't use 'Export'
Use Render - Merge Audio/DXI to stereo wav file file instead
after SOLOing the desired track(s)

Worked perfectly. Boy, never would have guessed that this would work. It even seems to slow down where I changed tempos in measures if I insert the track into an existing BIAB file. Not sure how a .wav file can do that but I like it. Thanks again.

Michael,

I've just been playing around in Realband and creating a loop that you can use as a metronome.

If you have a look under Realband's "Render" menu, there is an option for Acidizing audio. This option is used to create wav files that are stretched or shrunk to fit a given tempo and pitch-shifted to fit a given key if needed.

The zip file below contains a 1-bar wav file that I acidized in Realband. The original tempo of the file was 100 bpm and the time signature was 4/4. I put the audio into \bb\Realtracks\Loops. Once in the Loops folder, I loaded the wave into BIAB using the loop menu (with the settings I've highlighted below; drums do not need pitch-shifting/transposing).

[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

BIAB then created two instruction files (bt1 and bt6) to accompany the wav file. These are also in the zip file below.

If you copy the wav, bt1 and bt6 files and put the three of them in \bb\Realtracks\Loops, you will be able to use this file as a 4/4 metronome. It will speed up and slow down according to whatever tempo you adjust BIAB to.

Just FYI (fun fact)
Whenever you render a track in RB, at the end of the process it offers to Acidize it.
At least with my settings it does.
I believe that feature can be turned off, but why? If you don't want it on a particular file just click No.

Boy this is going to drive me nuts.

I tried doing this through the acid loops technique in Real Band.

The metronome settings were changed to the sounds/volumes I wanted. Sounded perfect.

Saved the metronome to a track in midi format.

I 'Rendered" that track to an Acid file, gave it a name and put it in "Loops"

Opened a new RB file to test things out.

Selected and Created Loop with the "Generate" Button.

Filled all the information and added the "loop" to a track. I even auditioned the item before clicking OK. Sounded perfect during the audition. But...

Played the track. Now sounded completely different than what I did in the first step. Also completely different from the audition. And, by "completely" I mean completely. Different sounds, different instruments, etc.

What am I doing wrong?

Michael

And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
