Has anyone tried the new universal Sonuus g2m (guitar to midi)? It supposed to convert single (not chords) notes from a regular electric guitar pickup to a midi signal with low latency.
Heres a youtube link.

Haven't tried it but it would be fun at a gig.

You can buy it at Musician's Friend for $99.00. I'm thinking of taking the plunge. Been wanting a midi guitar since midi came on the scene. Found one at a hock shop years ago but it didn't make it for me. I've been writing some Urban POP music lately and the one noter would fit the bill for the 'off the wall midi' sounds. I'm not very good on keyboard. Thanks for the link.

kristen;

I checked out a couple of videos. It looks promising. I went to their web site, and still could not find the price?

Just ordered one, Kristen. Will let you know how it works. If it works as good as my raggedy old keyboard (over 20 years old - Monkey Ward) I'll at least have a new bass guitar that I can play with my guitar. Not a bad price at all. I'm glad I visited the forum today.

Thanks. I hope it works. Personally, I hate to use a midi keyboard to get midi notes because I can't get the "guitar feel", and have to spend a lot of time editing. It this thing triggers the correct notes reasonably well and the latency isn't too bad ... then it will be worth it for the time saving. Keep us posted.

This seems to be the ticket. I almost bought the Roland VG system, $1500 in Canada with hex pickup, and then I started reading about all the MIDI tracking woes that guitarists have. Granted the VG system has tons of other features but the one that really interested me, because I am a better guitar player than a keyboard player, was the Guitar-to-MIDI feature. So now I see, for about $1400 dollars less, I can get the Sonuus. Well, I have to track it down in Canada. Long and McQuade simply said that they don't and probably won't carry it, so I have to fire off an email to their distributor and tell them that this thing would sell like crazy. Meanwhile, if any Canadians here on the forum know where I can get one in Canada could they please post here? I don't want to pay duty, that is why I'm trying to buy one in Canada. Thanks.

Personally i would like to hear from a few non-biased users who are reasonably satisfied with their performance before I order one. I know there are going to be some problems with it, but the questions remains how many problems and are they worth dealing with.

Kristen, I finally received my Sonuus GM2. It was on back order so I had to wait. It works as the reviews on the Internet, that I've read, says it does.
It's definitely mono (as advertised) and has plenty of pitch bend from bending the strings. I just delete them all out unless I want to keep one for a certain note. And you will get noises (extra notes) from your pick and from not playing too clean. I just delete these with the piano roll. But this, to me, is not all that bad. You will need to do some tweaking after recording but I have to do more of it whenever I play keyboard.

I've barely used it before writing this and this is my first impression. I think after you get to know the ins and outs of the thing it will be OK. It works as advertised. I will keep it because it will be good when I need to insert accents to my song. Or add a midi riff from whatever instrument. Also, I can play bass with it. It's not something you would play a concert with but for a tool for recording with, it's OK. For $99, not bad.

YES!

I have received it a couple of weeks ago from the UK reseller (EtCetera). Well, I have to say that in its simple way of connecting *every* electric guitar in oder to obtain a MIDI signal, it goes very, very well.
Of course the limit is that you cannot play chors at all with it, just one note at time, but after all that's what often happens with many solo instruments such as flute, trumpet, sax and so on.

Very important, to avoid extra noise and problems in note tracking, is a careful setting of the guitar volume, playing as more clean as possible, using the pick near the pick up of the guitar (probably the neck pickup is better) and setting the pickup tone on the guitar to zero.

All in all, MIDI guitar for all, at a very cheap price!

Only, if you want to buy it, I think you will have to wait, since you'll be put on a long waiting list. My waiting time was more than one month to receive it here in Sicily from the UK, due to the many requests.

Ciao!
