While reading through some of the forum posts this morning this idea struck me, and I thought I’d post it. Hopefully, I’m posting it in the right place. It has no doubt been brought up before but, nevertheless here goes. How about having an annual PG Music Convention? Held right there in Victoria, over some long three day holiday weekend, the purpose would be to hold BIAB and RB workshops and, clinics on the use of new technologies, mixing and mastering, and songwriting. Use of DAWs and other related products such as Garritan, and Melodyne could also be held. This would also be a good place for PG Music to kick off new products, etc. Cost would be based of course on hotel requirements and the selected workshops. The event would culminate with a banquet dinner and show performed by PG Music artist and selected users in country, rock, gospel, and jazz. I would, obviously, support something like this in a heartbeat. Does this interest anyone else? PG Music, does this interest you? -Carolyne

Good idea but probably wouldn't work, biab is a niche product and the users are scattered far and wide.
Musiclover I understand that all would not be able or even interested, but many might. We live in a global world, and people love to travel all over the world for all sorts of reasons. I've never been to Victoria. And although being from California, it is admittedly in my backyard, so to speak, I can't think of a better reason to update my passport. I think it's worth asking the question. -Carolyne

Carolyne, that's a great idea, and with the internet it's also possible to video-stream live, so others who might not be able to attend could participate with workshops, discussions etc.

I would love it if this ever happened, and if at all possible I would attend!
In the past when get-togethers have been discussed, regional participation has been received more favorably than the idea of one spot where everybody would gather.
But considering the sheer number of the PGMusic userbase, I think an announced meeting would probably get more participation than we might suspect.
Another possibility, given current technology, might be multiple get togethers around the world, with Skype or other video conferencing to tie them all together
I believe that if one person decided to make something happen, and assumed responsibility for making arrangements... it would just happen as planned. For lack of a shepherd, the sheep tend to scatter.
Ramping that idea up a notch, a self-proclaimed coordinator would not carry the weight of a coordination effort sponsored by (or encouraged by) PGMusic. I think such sponsorship would make a huge difference in participation.
But there's a LOT to be said for individual efforts to reach out to one another. The quality of communication at the peer level is very high and extremely satisfying. The more people you add to the equation, the communication dynamic changes... usually becoming more and more generic to include more people. But two people can almost always find a topic that fiercely interests them both.
Carolyne! I like the way you think! Please don't give up on this idea!

I've attempted to contact Peter Gannon and PG Music Marketing with the question. Momentum requires speed. I would suggest, if we're serious about this, to keep the word going throughout the forums while we await a response. I contacted Catherine Cantwell (PG Music Marketing)to request that if the idea is met favorably by them, to consider appointing a company coordinator to look further into the feasibility of such an undertaking. Such an endeavor would require considerable planning to pull it off successfully. Any event of that level requires lots of thought and deep, deep pockets.
First, is there a big enough need to have such an event? How many folks would be seriously interested? How many folks would actually attend an event like this? What new things would be taught that most folks using this don't already know or use in their music already? What else besides PG things would be offered to attract people and sponsors? Would there be enough folks there to justify a company like Cakewalk (for example) to send folks and displays to such an event where they might only see a few hundred people as opposed to the trade show where they see tens of thousands on a weekend?
Then, you have to weigh all that against the out of pocket cost to the individuals attending. For most of the users, there would be airlines round trip tickets, passport, motel rooms & meals, time away from family or work, and a host of other sundry expenses involved.
In my experience, Events like are being suggested are not generally worth the costs for the knowledge learned. Case in point.... I attended a Taxi Road Rally in LA one of the first years (2009) that I was a member with them. Incidentally, I was also fairly new to BiaB at that same time. Tickets were free to all members and so was all of the events, training, and seminars. I still spent close to $1200 out of my pocket on round trip budget airline tickets and motel room for a few days & meals. Did I get anywhere close to $1200 in value from contacts made or training? That could be discussed in great detail.... which I won't go into here. People literally flew in from all over the world. Sweden, Australia, Japan, Europe, Africa.
If the PG Company and staff wanted to throw a big meet and greet party with some PG specific training seminars and such things....and advertised it well in advance, and set a reasonable number of available slots, I would say it's likely that they would fill the slots. People will go for the party.
One of the big problems is, there are already industry events and doing a special event like this is a very expensive deal. In the industry trade shows, the cost is spread amongst the many companies representing. An event like this would be, all costs on PG. They couldn't do it for free, and then the question becomes, how much would people be willing to spend above travel costs for tickets to such an event?
As much as I love using PG software, I don't know that I would attend an event of this nature. Probably not unless it was really really some sort of special knowledge or training that I felt I absolutely needed in my musical toolbox.
It would be interesting to hear from PG on this idea though.

Even if everything is positive -- my travel expenses aren't. If PGMusic hosted such an event, it would probably be close to the company's site. For me there are eleven time zones to cover. I wouldn't spend that much time and money. However, if PGMusic would sponsor local get-togethers, - let's say a Saturday on different places around the earth,
- somwhere where a substantial number of people can travel to in two to three hours (they know where the majority of their customers are),
- with an expert providing tips and tricks on a given topic,
I would even pay a fee to get in -- if the topic is of interest for me. An event like this could even be very economic using the ressources available to PGMusic's customers -- rooms with no or almost no rent, for instance. I'd rather have a company that is investing excess money in developing the product and keep the prizes at a moderate level instead of giving it a away to the lucky few who by accident live in the neighborhood.

I wonder sometimes why PG would not schedule such events at GC, Sam Ash or others. Seems like a good place to generate a lot of interest, touch new customers, visit with a few "friends" and the retailer would welcome, support and host the event...just thinking.....

There are those among us who simply cannot travel although may dearly love to meet our PG Music friends worldwide. Perhaps a suitable alternative would be in the form of a Skype conference or similar. Streetjelly.com allows us to share our music and have a real-time dialogue with the performers and request tunes. Perhaps that site would be a sort of launchpad or pattern for us. The negative side - nothing can bridge the many time zones involved. Example: Joanne (Josie) Cooper lives in Johannesburg SA which puts her on the dark side of the planet and prevents her participation. She often sets her alarm for wee hours, Johannesburg time, just to exchange encouragement with her friends on the opposite side of the Earth. I like your thinking, Carolyne.

People do not attend conventions and trade shows to necessarily learn how to do something. They attend to share knowledge and interact with other’s with whom they share a particular passion or skill. For instance, the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) 2015 Merchandise Show had 41,000 attendees this year in Orlando. 1,000 merchants showed their products. The cost of admission was $100. It was attended by all 50 US states and 79 other countries, the top five being Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, and Sweden. There were celebrity appearances, seminars, tutorials, and live workshops, with more than $ $2 million dollars sold in products. Now I hate golf so attending a PGA function wouldn’t interest me. But something related to music, and music production and products?
I have been forced to go with my family to Disneyland a couple of times. It cost a fortune to go to Disneyland, and each time I come away having learned not one new thing about Mickey Mouse. But what I experienced, and the time I spent with family and friends had intrinsic value and cannot be weighed solely against what it cost to take that stupid photo with Goofy.
I agree great planning is required, which is why we’re having the conversation. Neither am I suggesting anything be attempted on the scale of the PGA. This idea may never amount to anything more than a post on a wish list. It may blow over as it has in the past. However, if it doesn’t happen it should be because there is no interest, and not because it requires hard work and planning. How much time, effort and money is up to PG Music. All we have to do is show up and support their effort and hang out. So until we get a definite NO from PG Music, let’s keep the conversation going. The pros and cons of the issue are of equal importance. -Carolyne

I live about 35km from JosieC and it would cost me a bomb to travel to Canada for such an event.
My wife is an avid quilter and we attend a lot of quilt festivals....
She has just declined an invitation to a quilt festival in Houston because we had to test what the trip would cost us to travel from here against the value/benefit we would get from it!
Do not get me wrong but I would love to go but I questions how anyone will prioritise spending some time with me when the rest of the experts will be there?
I think a regional UserGroup will be far more valueable and I will be able to afford attending that ....
We can then even schedule a demonstration or even a jam session from various attendees. Maybe PG Music will be willing to sponsor some product freebees as prizes? We can maybe get the info to the major music shops here TOMS , Marshall Music etc for publicity if we want to get exposure for BIaB If anyone in South Africa is interested the can PM me ...... We can then decide on collaboration for arrangements

A problem with Skype online conferences is that someone must moderate or participants tend to fall through the cracks quickly. Some are more outgoing than others.
I know there are such things as online classes but I don't know how they function. If that's a direction we want to explore, maybe someone should investigate the nuts and bolts of it.

how about a pgmusic hosted quarterly google hangout devoted to a topic voted on by forum members while there can only be 10 participants the session can be recorded for future playback there probably need to be a way to choose the 10 participants
