So, getting this prompt in BIAB2018 when I try to save, rename, or Render individual tracks. I am using a MacBook Pro and have all BIAB on a separate drive. I get this prompt when I try to save to my rMBPro hard drive. I CAN SAVE to my BIAB peripheral drive (7200rpm SeaGate) which hosting the BIAB program as well as all of the RealTracks files.
Odd thing is that I have been working with BIAB2018 for a couple of weeks and this problem just started this morning.
I imagine it could something to do with "permissions" on my Mac - but everything looks good there. Where should I look next?

kevinlamb,
click on your desktop and then in Finder Apple's menu bar go to Help and type in setting permissions which will provide the information for " if you don't have the permissions to open a file or folder " then also in that opened help window " See also "
excuse me if you know all this stuff

Hi Kevin,
Have you tried creating a folder and saving your songs there, instead of saving to the root? Your Documents folder is a great place to save your work, you could simply make a "BIAB songs" folder there and use that to store your work.
I would never save a project to the root of my Mac's hard drive.
Thanks Kent PG Music

Since OS 10.11, the Root is sandboxed. You cannot save to it.
In fact, without running certain Terminal commands, you cannot access the Root. Definitely not recommend unless you really know what you’re doing—and then only to remove old code that is causing modern problems (older installs of Soundflower come to mind).

This I did know but it did not work - looking at High Sierra as the culprit. Root access was changed.

This is what I am going to do. The sessions save just fine to the peripheral drive - - see, thing is that it was working fine up until the day of my post - I did not change any settings on my Mac - I don't know what I enabled to make this happen.

And without more information and terms that those knowledgable about the Mac OS use, no one can help. As I mentioned, access to the root has been disabled since El Cap. Although this can be defeated, I'm guessing that's not the case here. So... Where are you trying to save to, really? What is the path?

Hi Mike,
I suspect you might be thinking of the Root user account, which indeed is disabled by default in El Capitan and later versions of Mac OS.
This issue is unrelated, Kevin was trying to save files to the root directory of his Mac HD, ie not in a folder, and BIAB wasn't allowing it. This is normal, files need to be saved in folders.
Thanks Kent PG Music

Thanks Kent PG Music Kent, No app that follows the Apple Toolkit allows this. I am neither confused nor have you contradicted me. My original advice remains unchanged. Writing to Root was disabled in El Capitán. Had the OP described the path, it would be easy to see the mistake but this has not happened. Instead, we got this: Odd thing is that I have been working with BIAB2018 for a couple of weeks and this problem just started this morning.
and I'm guessing that we don't know the real problem.

Unfortunately user kevinlamb has not posted any follow up information to clarify his original post so no one can really know what he meant.
I wish more people would follow up their original post in a thread like this. As it stands now, someone may find this thread in their search results only to find out there is no resolution.

Fully agree with you Jim. Personally speaking it is huge disappointment when a question is posted/asked as we had from kevinlamb and we offer a solution or suggestion with no response . Although they may not know how to find their question . So, hope kevinlamb comes back at us.
