Hey everyone, it's been a loooong time since I've been active on these forums. i had some kids and just didn't have time for anything else. i just upgraded to PTPA2019 just so i could access all of my recording done over 10 years ago.
I have a friend that wants to record some live drums on some of my recordings but he doesn't have PTPA. he uses Protools. is there any way for him to import .SEQ files in Protools, or any other DAW for that matter?
I have a studio one demo that I would like to play around with but i don't know any way to use my old files in it and i would hate to have to start from scratch.
PTPA .Seq files are proprietary so they cannot be imported into Pro Tools or any other DAW. However, exporting tracks for your PTPA2019 program as WAV files can be imported into Pro Tools or any other DAW.
thank you for the reply. when i export as a .wav file do i have to do it individually for each track or will it automatically export the whole file together? if so, does that mean i cannot mix the individual tracks in another DAW as they will be combined into one .WAV?
Will this export feature save as a Cubase file also (*.cpr extension, I believe my friend said)?
No. Song project file extensions are generally program specific. That is because a song project file not only contains audio files but can also contain midi files as well as program specific data such as track information and program settings.
On the other hand WAV and AIF are considered universal audio file extensions while MID and SMF are midi extensions by specification. Almost all computer programs that work with audio can manage one, or the other, or both audio file extensions and midi.
If you are using Windows another way to try would be opening the file in Powertracks (or RB), Then open a new project in Cubase
Grab the Track Number in PT with the mouse and try dragging it to a track in Cubase. (important to grab the track number for this) Do it for each track.
Some DAWs (like Reaper) allow this and it is convenient. I do not have Cubase so I can't verify it works there, but worth a shot.
