I've been dabbling with Style Wizard to create styles from midi. This is a great utility and it works well. One of the issues I have is that I used a midi song with a 3/4 time signature and the wizard detects so many things about the midi song in order to create the style. When I tried out this I noticed the the time signature was 4/4 and when my new set of chords played they were playing out of time.
Any ideas please?

Just a thought. After you save the style using the Style Wizard, perhaps open that newly saved style in Style Maker, go to the "Misc Style Settings", and check the box marked "Waltz"; save it and see if it does 3/4 correctly then. I don't know if this works, but I don't see anything in the Style Wizard that lets you set the key signature, so maybe this is a way to do it. It's worth the two minutes it takes to try it.

Well, it was definitely worth a try John. I'd forgotten which midi file had been loaded when this particular problem arose, so I just loaded another midi that was known to be 3/4. This file was actually detected by BiaB as 3/4 which seems to confirm the wizard does detect the time signature. Having checked this out I then looked in the folder where i had been yesterday and found the file. I loaded this one and it detected this song as 4/4, just as it did yesterday. I tried your suggestion of re-opening the new style in StyleMaker and set the Waltz setting and saved it, but no change to time signature.

If the MIDI file you used shows as 4/4, then that tells me whoever created it never set the time signature. So, even though it sounds like 3/4, it is essentially notated as 4/4.
I would load the MIDI file into a notation program, change the time signature to 3/4, and then realign all the bar lines. I know that Noteworthy Composer can do that.

Hi John,
I tried your suggested remedy with mixed results. In noteworthy I was able to change the time signature and this appeared to work well for the first six or seven bars then it started to get out of sync. I imported it into Sonar which was set up prior as a 3/4 project and this did the job of 3/4 but it seemed out of sync.
I've now just realised that I came across this problem with this same file about a year ago when I was experimenting with RealBand. As I recall I had to use the midi editor in Sonar to sort it out and actually shrink the midi notes to fit. That did work but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it.
When I loaded it into the MidiYodi editor it does display 4/4 but no time signature events occur so perhaps this is just the default.
I would be happy for you to look at, if its just to be aware of how to handle this type of file in the future.
I don't know to send it to you though.
