I thought I might give this a try at rendering the chordsheet so that I could send some backing tracks to my granddaughter to practice guitar. But my resulting video suffers from some latency when compared to the live playback from BiaB. This is not a lot of good for a practicing guitarist. Is this normal please?

Thanks

Is the latency you are experiencing, between the audio and the video?
That is, the bar that is being highlighted in the video is either ahead of, or behind the audio?
I don't find that to be the case when I use BIAB's "Save as video" button.
Perhaps you just need to do some tweaking in the Options > MIDI/Audio Driver window.

Also, you may want to do some research into the "process" you plan to use with your granddaughter.
The videos that BIAB produce have a fairly large file size, and depending on how you are planning
to "send" them, there may be a size limitation if you're going to "attach" them, say, to an email.

If you run into a limitation there, you might consider just creating an MP3 file from BIAB,
plus create a PDF file of the chords, also from BIAB, and send both of those, rather than a video.

Good luck!

Yes, the audio 'beat' differs from the visual one on the chordsheet. I use the process you describe but hear the audio beat just slightly after the visual one stars. But if it should be working in sync then I'll have a look. I'm using ASIO with my audio interface and its OK with all the other modes.

Thanks

jonel,

I'm wondering if what you're hearing and seeing may be an issue involving the song style having a mixture of RealTracks or audio while other tracks have midi or SuperMidi tracks?

Press Ctrl + E to open the Preferences window and then press "d" on your computer keyboard or select the MIDI Driver button to open the MIDI/Audio Drivers Setup dialog window.

Select the Latency Adjust ... button.

If you previously selected a DXi or VST soft synth as your Band-in-a-Box midi sound module then you will see a pop up windows stating that since you have a soft synth no adjustment is needed. BUT ...

If you're using the default Windows GS Wavetable sound module you will need to adjust the MIDI sound module output so it matches the audio output and you will see the dialog window below.

Follow the instructions given in the adjustment window.

I find the same to be true. When I choose the Save to video option on the save as drop down. I get a video (and you can choose if you want the chord sheet or individual instrument parts displayed in the resulting video) using chords for instance, that shows the chord sheet and has a cursor moving along with the music but it is not in time with the audio that was rendered within the video. If that makes any sense.

My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

I mentioned this elsewhere but I'll repeat it here.
There are a couple of "gotchas" when rendering to video.
Here's the process I use:

1. When my song is ready, in the full Menu Bar at the top, > Save As > Save as video
2. When the "Make Chord Sheet Video" window opens, I IMMEDIATELY change the main BIAB window to
"Fullscreen Chord Sheet View" (with the smaller Menu bar)
by using CTRL+T (yes, both windows will stay open at once)
3. In the "Make Chord Sheet Video" window, I click on "OK - Render Video", then name and Save it
4. When the video has been completely rendered, I click the "Show Video File" button (opens File Explorer)
5. BEFORE I VIEW THE VIDEO, I close both the "Make ... Video" window AND the BIAB main window
6. Now when I double click the .avi file in File Explorer, the video opens and plays correctly

YMMV
Good Luck!

Lloyd,

Your step-by-step guide about how to render video would make a nice post in the Tips & Tricks forum section.

Lloyd,
I was interested in your guide to getting the rendered video to work in time to the beat. Unfortunately I was not able to follow the steps exactly as you described, perhaps because of the procedure used in different versions of BiaB. I couldn't really see how this process could work any differently from the straightforward save, but hey, anything to get this to work so I tried as best I could to follow in your footsteps.

1. I couldn't just Save As > Save as video because that option is not available. It IS available if I select Save Special and save as an mp4 but that gives me no option to save as a chordsheet. I had to use the track buttons on the menu bar but even the Master does not allow a Render to video (although the 2020 Manual states that it can). So I had to select one of the other tracks and the right-click > Render Video(s) and then select Chordsheet in the dialog.
2. I then used Ctrl-T to get the minimal menu
3. OK to Render Video, name and save
4. After rendering I click on the Show Video File
5 Before I view I close the Make Video dialog and BiaB
6. I view the file and guess what ... No change.

This obviously does work because I have a video from someone who has done it. I have tried the other suggestions but to no avail but I really think I need to go back and look at my audio configuration again.

In my step 1:

1. When my song is ready, in the full Menu Bar at the top, > Save As > Save as video

when you say the "> Save As > Save as video" is not available, are you using BIAB 2020 for Windows?

The "Save as video" is not found under the "File" menu bar.
It's a separate icon (a floppy disc with the word "As" in red) on the full menu bar in the "File" area, and is labeled "Save As", with a dropdown arrow.
Right at the bottom of that dropdown is the "Save as video" selection.

If I follow my steps exactly, I get a video that's in sync.
Can you please try the process again with the above revised step 1, and let us know if it works?

Thanks!

Hi Lloyd,
Yes, I'm using 2020 and I didn't realise the difference in selecting Save As using the 'floppy' icon from the other methods. It's just another annoying little facet of the way this product has grown over the years I suppose.

But anyway, I did try your procedure again and it still failed to synchronise. All my tracks are RealTracks. Like I said, I have no doubt this may work for you and others but it doesn't work in my case. Furthermore, any process that relies on such a 'trick' is definitely to be avoided.

I love BB but and its easy to forgive most of the little software glitches, but when it gets to a point where it wastes such a lot of time then the 'glitches' can get very annoying.
I mean, even with this little procedure that you have outlined, sometimes the dialog disappears during the render - but not every time, only to be found afterwards behind the main screen, or having to Alt - Tab it to try and get it to appear.

So, I'll move on now and forget this, life's a bit too short to stuff a mushroom at my age lol. I could probably try and use Applian's Video Capture to do the job.

Thanks for the information though.

Yup, you're right about BIAB and it's little idiosyncrasies!
I've been using it since Version III on floppy disk.
I keep a Word file called "BIAB Tips and Tricks" close at hand and have numerous pages of
little things like this, that I've collected over the years.

I guess the thing is, I'm happy to put up with the quirks for the substantial value I get from the program!

Perhaps someone else here on the Forum will have a solution for you,
or you could contact Support and step them through your process to see what they can find.

Good luck!

Thanks Lloyd, I also put up with a lot because of the sheer musical value to me. RealBand is even flakier sometimes but I love that too. Ableton is pretty rock stable and the menus are consistent but not a patch on BB and RB for the basic songwriting stuff.
