I'm working up my homage to this great guitar player.
I've selected this classic piece from his book.
I started putting together an arrangement and found much of the bluegrass styles don't help so much.
Its not really a bluegrass tune.
Wondering if any others have worked on it yet.
What styles did you like?
I'm doing it in 4/4 not 12/8 as some suggest. A bar of 6/4 on the first ending of the A section.

I think you will not find a style that will really compliment this song very well. There may be some that can sort of work, but I looked through about 100 today and didn't find anything that was really close enough. It is hard to classify. Definitely not bluegrass in the traditional sense. Bluegrass instrumentation for sure. Newgrass? Jazz elements. Just goes to show what a talent Tony Rice really was, and the whole Tony Rice Unit, Ricky Skaggs, etc. Players all at the top of their field playing interesting music.

I would experiment and try creating your own new style, you may be able to get exactly what you are looking for that way. Converting a good midi to a style is another way to go if you can find it.

Its hard to get the holds and pushes to sound correct in just about any style. Sometimes you'll get one or the other to sound ok but its just not there.
Pretty disappointing as I'm also logging on guitar getting the head up to speed. At 120 bpm its plenty work to sound clean at my skill level. Makes one appreciate just how good a player TR was.
Looked around for midi and backing tracks but pretty much got nothing I can use so for.
Anyway, I'll keep at it and let you know if I find a solution.
