hello all
I have a BIAB 2021 audiophile version and it's a great program
however, I have many MIDI songs that I would like to complete before trying to do something with the Real styles
I have a few songs that I like but that get somewhat boring by the time you reach the 3rd chorus
I know there are plenty of options to change instruments at some point and so on
but it seems to me two very basic functions are missing:
1) transpose a given instrument in a given part of the song one or more octaves or one or more semitones in a specific direction (up or down)
2) choose a given way of playing a guitar part, for example using open chords in the verses and barres chords in the chorus
I don't want to mess with the styles nor with another program to achieve such basic arrangments tricks
is there a way to achieve this ?
thanks in advance

#1, yes. I'm not at a computer now, but the command is something like Melody, Edit Melody, Transpose. I think you have choices to select an octave up or down, or a set interval change, but as I recall, the first option allows you to select the whole track or part of it. Same for the Harmony track.

Another way to do it is to go into Editable Notation Mode and drag each note up or down pretty easily.

#2, no. You could make a post in the Wishlist Forum.

I'm just old. And I have many more posts than what you see, because they changed forum software in the summer of 2000, and we all lost our old post counts.

But some of my posts are easy, like "+1"

I looked at your website, but I last read French 55 years ago.

I do eat, drink and sleep music. And I was a computer science professor, so that is helpful.

Bring on your questions. Make sure to post them in the right forum for each, so they are seen by the right group. This question should have been in the BIAB for Windows or BIAB for Mac forum.

Hi Bernard, it's nice to meet you! If you're working with MIDI tracks (in Windows), octaves are easy. Right click on the name of the track, click on "Edit MIDI," click on "transpose" for the dropdown menu.

If you only wish to transpose part of the track, then I think you probably have to go to the Editable Notation window. What I would do to avoid that--because it's not a fast process, but then maybe I just haven't figured it out yet; still a newbie to BIAB myself--is make a copy of the track, change the octave in the copy, and then delete the rest of it. You can also delete the corresponding area in your original track and then the two will dovetail together with the octave change where you wish it.

Love is always worth the risk.

yes, it is a bit time-consuming; say I have a piano track, a guitar track and a string ensemble
track
trying all possible combinations of transposed tracks to find which one better keeps the song fresh is complicated
I think I will put this in the BIAB wish list
thanks for your reply anyway !

You CAN do your #1 request on the Melody and Soloist tracks. The command is much as I had guessed:

Melody menu, Edit Melody Track, Transpose, Transpose Melody Only, click the radio button Part of a Song, and specify the range of bars and the number of semitones.

Soloist menu, exactly the same way.

However, if you have a RealTrack, that's a problem. When you wrote "say I have a piano track, a guitar track and a string ensemble track" you didn't say if they were MIDI.

hi again, Matt
I have been sleeping for a few hours (it is 3 AM in my country ;-) )
yes, I was only talking about midi styles
I guess one can freeze generated midi tracks then edit them in the same way than mlody track ?

You can edit then freeze.

But editing is not the same way as the commands I gave for Melody and Soloist; you would have to edit those other tracks by hand in Editable Notation Mode. This is assuming you do not want the entire band to transpose the same way.
