Oh no!
I have not only Presonus hardware (audio interfaces and Faderports) but software (Studio One for my DAW and Notion for music notation). I’m a beta tester for Notion and I did not know this.

Wow! I agree with Mario...I hope they don't take a great company into the ground. Like Matt, I have a Presonus audio/MIDI interface, as well as Studio One and Notion (versions 4, 5, and 6), and Studio One (versions 3, 4, and 5).

I, too, hope Fender doesn't *!#@ it up.
Software is a very different 'animal' than guitars and amps.
On the other hand, Fender has a lot of cash, and if they leave things alone instead of trying to milk it, the end result might be better.
We can hope, anyway.

I had a short exchange with the chief developer of Notion, the notation software by Presonus. He is positive about the change. That’s great to hear.

I can't believe Fender bought the company with a business plan to run it into the ground. Much like the uproar when Sweetwater was purchased, all that will likely change is the bank name on the paycheck. Nobody buys a successful business with a long track record with the intention of disturbing the flow and flying it into the ground. That would be like General Motors buying Warby Parker and having a tool and die guy taking over the manufacturing process of eyeglass frames.
There are likely similar situations of conglomerates and we just don't know who they are.

Fender is mostly held by a Private Equity firm.
Its possible they are now on a buying spree.
A common PE model typically is to Pump up the top and bottom line quickly (often through acquisition rather than organic growth).
Sell a story nice growth/synergy story to Wall Street, get a nice valuation on the IPO and take the larger consolidated company public.
Cashout the PE shareholders with a tidy gain at the IPO or shortly thereafter.
I think many of the PE people wouldn't know a telecaster from a telephone.
This may not be the case with Fender, but it would not surprise me.
I am neither a financial analyst nor a predictor of the future.
I do like a telecaster.

There are likely similar situations of conglomerates and we just don't know who they are. No they didn't purchase Presonus to run it into the ground. But neither did Gibson when they purchased Vision and Sonar/Cakewalk. They ran both into the ground because they had no expertise in running a software company and programing. I hope Fender is smarter then Gibson.
I get most of my exercise these days from shaking my head in disbelief.

So, hopefully Presonus won't go the way of Sunn!

So, hopefully Presonus won't go the way of Sunn! I agree but those are guitars and amps and not software and computer peripherals. I hadn't realized that Sunn was a thing of the past.

Okay how about another perspective on the devout but finite fan base of Cakewalk?
I started on Cakewalk when it was still a DOS program, complete with Greg Hendershot's name on the top page!! I followed it through normal product life cycle and watched as they patched this and duct taped that, but it really didn't change much beyond lipstick and mascara. Even when Sonar was born, it didn't do much different other than a new, fresh interface. It was still clunky to configure. But people rode it to the ground because it was what they knew and rather than (GASP!!) learn something knew that may actually (also GASP!!) be better they stuck to it. This is mindful of people who always had, currently have, and always will have a Chevy. This despite the classic failures in the brand's lifetime. The Corvair and the Vega come to mind. (An uncle was a career long tool and die design engineer, and he would not allow my cousin to drive a Corvair.) I owned a Vega, and that mismatched combination of aluminum block and cast heads. Worst design ever, but it was cheap and I needed a car.
The point of that metaphor is that Cakewalk is what Cakewalk is, and simply stated, Pro Tools is better. Without a doubt. All the horrible "Bob's DAW" level products that have their loyal following quite often have that following because they are either cheap or free. Remember, because something is YOUR favorite doesn't mean anything outside the boundaries of your yard. The logic of "It does EVERYTHING that I need it to do!" Great! But that's YOU. For the most part, people weighing in here at PG are not major players and most are hobby level players.
So Gibson acquiring Cakewalk was likely a fairly inexpensive attempt at a cash flow injection is nothing more than that. Looking around at the economy paints a vivid picture. I am not about to shell out $3500 for a product made of $200 worth of materials and labor (given that everything is batch cut on CNC machines and assembled by line level assembly workers). Used Epiphones from Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are more my speed now. And that doesn't even apply the Cheap Slovenian Quotient. In a world of "good enough" and planned obsolescence, quality doesn't matter like it did 20 years ago. Remember we are also in a time of corporate takeover and consolidation. There will come a time where Pro Tools will be the only option, and we'll be able to buy it at Best Target Buy Sears Roe-Mart with a 10% off ad we got from the News-Journal-Herald-Post-Times-Tribune. I envision a time long after we are gone that your 2 options will be a US car from RAM General Ford or an Elsewhere car from some Asian conglomerate. Excesses and repetitions tend to blend into the sameness eventually. Once the old guard who refuses to pay bills online on one of those danged computer things dies off, there will be no need for US Mail. And things like TV news and newspapers? Seriously? Everything in a newspaper happened yesterday, and I read about it 10 minutes after it happened on that new fangled invention Al Gore invented (roll eyes) called The Internet.
These mergers and acquisitions are just the current greed-based "how it is". And more of them fail than succeed. Like Cakewalk.
I STILL shake my head at people who think Epiphone is a knock off Gibson, despite Epiphone having begun production 20 years before Gibson. Amazing how little people read anymore.
Just like how you can tell someone there are millions of stars in the sky and they will believe you, but they touch a bench despite the sign that says Wet Paint.

Fender has some experience with software. There are some editor/librarian apps that work with their modeling amps with USB interface, online educational "learn to play a guitar" lessons. Finally they had a program called Guitar Riff.
If Fender can handle PreSonus as well as Yamaha has handled Line 6, we (the public) will be okay.

Well, I do have Studio one, Notion and an Atom Controller. I am amazed by the products (the software is among the very best that is available for any type of work) and love the integration with the Hardware they have. I was planing to get a faderport and audio interface (if Santa is kind *) because of this integration. When hearing of the fender Deal, I started rethinking. To often such aquisition go wrong. But I will stick with my plan. The hardware could still be used with the software at its current state. Future moves will not alter what I have. They either will be bad, in which case no further investment is made; or be good, in which case I will spend more money.
I own a copy of Reason (been a user for years) and I am unhappy with the way the company evolves since they have been aquiered by a PE company. But as much as I doubt I will spend more money with them, I still have my software unchanged by recent events. And the Controller surface I bought (nektar Panorama) is still working with Reason and can be used with many other DAWS. In fact, it does work even better with Studio One. So the hardware invest was not affected by Reason Studios current direction.
* maybe becoming a beta tester is another option?

I use Studio One. I hope it continues to be of value.
If it gets screwed up I will buy something else just like I did with Cakewalk.
My commercial experience with Fender has been less than wonderful. In my custom amp building days, I also repaired Fender amps every now and then. They would call me and be super polite when they wanted something from me. If I called them and needed a part or a bit of technical information it was not so friendly.
I have tried to use Pro Tools. I found it to be pretty hard to learn. I never liked the idea you had to use their hardware.
Pro Tools is the defacto standard and most likely the only DAW that does an excellent job at recording live drums.
I still have a copy of Sonar that works and a copy of Band Lab Cakewalk. I have Reaper and one or two others I never turn on.
So, I will have a DAW no matter what happens with Studio One.

I never liked the idea you had to use their hardware. (Pro Tools) They try to upsell you on the hardware but by no means is it required. I just use the software. You are correct and it does have a steep learning curve. I worked on it hard for a couple of years and feel comfortable using it now.

My meaning here was more along these lines - Fender has basically left Gretsch alone and Gretsch gear is still great. Fender is building Jackson and Charvel guitars in the Fender factories and they are also still great. Fender bought Genz Benz and Sunn and killed them off. So basically it could go one of three ways with Presonus - either Fender leaves them alone and they continue to be great, or they take over Presonus with proper care and attention and they continue to be great, or they toss Presonus into the trash. Hopefully one of the former instead of the latter. If Fender can handle PreSonus as well as Yamaha has handled Line 6, we (the public) will be okay. Absolutely. There's plenty of evidence that huge companies can do things the right way - hopefully Fender will follow suit. I never liked the idea you had to use their hardware. Fender has made many different types of instruments over the years. Interesting Fender rumor I read in another forum is that Fender is going to resume production of pedal steel guitars.
