The only thing I really use BIAB for is making leadsheets. I put in the melody and changes, listen to them in a style that is close to what I have in my head, correct/modify/tweak as needed, then print them as PDFs. So, though all the additional styles and RealTracks are cool, but they don't help me much.

What are the features that have been added between 2019 and 2022 that will help me with leadsheets?

Thanks in advance.

There are usually about 50 new features added each year.
The new features added in the 2022 version can be found at this link.

There is a condensed list of the 2022 new features on this video:

BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.

Specifically about lead sheets, I can think of two changes that might affect you. One is the handling of cut time. The second might have occurred by 2019 but it’s the handling of correctly-spelled enharmonic notes like Cb. The only way to answer your question would be to review the description of new features for 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Thanks, Matt. Is there somewhere the new features year by year are listed? I looked for that and all I could find were changes for 2022.

I read somewhere that in 2021 a feature was added that would allow you to put chords on fractions of a beat - for example pushes or chords on triplets. That's something I think I would use.

I think you are referring to microchords, which is a new feature in 2022. I'm not sure a leadsheet would be properly readable, but I haven't tried it yet. It's a good question.

Each year there are at least two Help files added to BIAB: the full manual and the new features excerpt. I presume a collection of three of those new features PDFs would allow someone to research with careful reading. The Upgrade Manuals for each year are available on the PG Music website, here: https://www.pgmusic.com/manuals/index.htm

Greetings E. H. Hackney,

I believe you asked if it is worth updating the Band-in-a-Box program considering you are not interested in adding additional content. My answer is YES.

I suggest you wait until the 2023 program is released. Traditionally the only time PG Music offers the program as a standalone item for sale is during the annual new release sale. Once the new release sale is over the program can only be purchased as part of a package.

My reasoning for saying yes is I believe it useful to keep the main program up-to-date as that ensures I have access to all available fixes as well as program enhancements.

Historically, the new Windows versions have been released in early December.

As I've been struggling recently with BIAB I've realized that, though I enjoy the improved sounds of RealTracks over MIDI, the older versions of BIAB, older than my current 2019 version, were easier for me to use. I don't use the program to make back-up arrangements, and don't need something to generate solos. I want a tool to create tunes, including originals, to listen to the results to get the chords and melody right, then to make leadsheets. I find a spend a lot of time working around features that are just getting in my way. BIAB may no longer be the right tool for my needs
