am i right in that RB (or PT in those days) used to have a vocal remover plugin that allowed you to 'remove' the vocal from a recorded piece of music?

As I recall Yes, and I believe it was one of the 32 bit plugins that got lost along the way to 64

If you have access to (most users do), and launch the 32 bit version it is still there..
Try going to your RB folder, and launch Realband.exe (not Realband64.exe) if you have it.
Then you can use this tool in 32 bit, save and go back to RB64 as needed.
I have latest RB and the 32 bit version still resides in that folder alongside the 64 bit version.

bob.
lots of those old plug ins ive found a use for on occasion...eg..today..

i had a nasty 'mic clik' on an old demo master ive been trying to get to sound better...so i lucked out with the rb 'vinyl' plug in. i was ecstatic today. cos i had tried lots of ideas at various times in the past.

what i found with the old rb plug ins is ya gotta experiment. i think it depends on the source music.

best

No it wasn't, sadly
but thanks for this thread, it reminded me that I can open a certain current project in RB32 and use my old OBTune plugin <grin>

It doesn't get much simpler than that -

I use RB 32-bit now mainly just for OB-Tune, then render to a new track, and go back to 64-bit.

That's the same steps here .. use RB 32 bit when needed, then back to RB64.
Just open the same SEQ file in RB64 that you saved in RB32, and get right back to work

It's good to remember that many old tools are still available, like vocal remover as well as some 32 bit DX (not VST) stuff.
I'm pretty sure most users with RB64 also have RB32, just never realized the usefulness and reason PGMusic left it in.
Apparently I'm not the only one that appreciates that they did. smile

For vocal removal, you might check out the free pre-packaged SpleeterGUI: https://makenweb.com/SpleeterGUI

Drag and drop goodness.

2 track: Vocal + Backing (in stereo)
4 track: Vocal + Bass + Drums + Other
5 Track: Vocal + Bass + Piano + Drums + Other

Not perfect, but it can be very good, especially if you're only removing the vocals.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Funny,

64 bit 2023 Band-in-a-Box lists the PG Music DX Vocal Remover. However, nothing loads when you select it.

The same thing happens when you select the Multi Band DX effect; it doesn't load.

PGMultiBand Shows up in my list, but has never loaded for me...

Both PGVocalRemover and PGMultiBand, are listed in choose in "Choose a Plugin", but they don't appear to be physically in the
C:\Program Files\PowerTracks DirectX Plugins folder, (as the other PG Plugins do that work).

if i start RB 32 bit the dx plugin list shows the vocal remover so i presume it works in 32 bit but haven't tried it

I see it in 32-bit as well. It should work as well as it always did, which wasn't perfect. I'm hoping that eventually we get a more modern vocal removal effect, similar to what they have on "vocalremover dot org" although I'm not aware of any immediate plan for that.

The free desktop app sounds interesting. Will check that out.
