Working on a song in 4/4 time and would like to be able to pause for 2 beats before starting the next chorus or set of verses. Using Edit>Insert Blank Bar command makes the pause two beats too long ( would like a "1 and 2 and" pause, not a "1 and 2 and 3 and 4" pause.
Is this possible?
As always, thanks for the input. Carkins

Someone that has more experience will likely answer soon but there is a way using the ubiquitous f5 that will set parameters for the measure and you can change the time there I believe. I have never had to do that so I don't know for sure. Someone will have the definitive answer for you soon.
But it is absolutely possible.

I think you are talking about Brecks in a song which are addressed by "Rests, Shots and Holds" - and my understanding is these are fully funtional in BIAB but not in RB (at least not for creating them). There is a code system to type the chords or you can simply use Alt-F5 (in BIAB). Sounds like you want a two beat rest. Here is the BIAB Help on the subject: Rests, Shots, and Holds "Breaks" (Rests, Shots, and Held Chords) "Breaks" are points in a song when one or more of the instruments rests, plays a shot, or holds a chord. Rests Can specify any, some, or all instruments to rest at any bar. For example, you could rest all instruments except the bass for the first 4 bars, and then add in the piano for 4 bars, and then add in the entire band for the rest of the song. You may optionally disable the rests in the middle or final choruses (where people are likely taking solos, and rests are not appropriate). Shots You can specify certain instruments play a "shot," where the chord is played and then a rest follows. For example the song "Rock Around The Clock" has a shot on beat 1 followed by a rest for seven beats. Held chords You can specify that certain instruments hold a chord sustained for a certain number of bars. For example, you can have the bass and piano hold a chord sustained while the drums continue to play a pattern A chord can be specified as a Rest by adding a period after the chord. indicates a C chord that is a Rest. A chord can be specified as a Shot by adding two periods after the chord. indicates a C chord that is a Shot. A chord can be specified as a Held Chord by adding three periods after the chord. indicates a C chord that is a Held Chord. Putting these breaks into the chord sheet: in the example that follows, bar 1 will have a normal chord then bar 2 will have a chord with a break on it (a rest, shot, or held chord). RealTracks will play rests, shots, and held chords if: - the "Allow RealTracks Shots, Holds, and Pushes" option is enabled in the Song Settings dialog and the RealTracks Settings dialog, - you have the RealTracks shots and holds files installed, and - the Holds (H) column in the RealTracks Picker shows a number. If there is a number there (other than a blank field), then they are all supported. If there is an "n" this means that they are supported, but you don’t have the Holds_## files in the RealTracks\Library\Holds folder. You are getting into deep water now, hope you can swim...

It sounds like he is more interested in putting in a measure of 2. I swore there was a way to change the time signature for one measure and then revert.

Glub,glub!!
I'll take it anyway I can get it!
I've actually played around with the shots and holds in another part of the song and they worked perfectly for a part that required an abrupt halt followed by a held chord.
Sort of like a quick stop in a doorway followed by the crowd pushing you through.
Used an A. D... for that effect.
Tried adding double held chords to see if it would extend the pause long enough but that didn't seem to work. A... A... Then added a Blank bar and filled it with another held Chord A... But that was too long.
That's why I thought it might be done by adding a truncated ($5 word) bar with only 2 beats instead of 4.
Still open to suggestions and will update if I stumble on an answer.
Have a good one, Carkins

In the realband manual page 72 there is a reference to rests, etc.
Rests/Shot/Held Chord/Pushes Rests, Shot, Held Chord, and Pushes are supported by the RealBand generation routines: A chord can be specified as a Rest by adding a period after the chord. e.g. “C.” indicates a C chord that is a Rest. A chord can be specified as a Shot by adding two periods after the chord. e.g. “C..” indicates a C chord that is a Shot. A chord can be specified as a Held Chord by adding three periods after the chord. e.g. “C…” indicates a C chord that is a Held Chord. Pushes: ^C = 8th push ^^C = 16th push Note: Pushes, Shots, Rests, Hold Chords can ONLY be entered in the Chords Window. Part Markers

At the bottom of the screen is a window for 'Meter' Enter any time changes in there at whatever measure you want!
You guys are making this way harder than it needs to be. Enter a bar of 2/4 then make the next bar 4/4 and voila, a half measure break.

Lions, not blue and gold last night. And we have GOOD team this year for a change. Everyone from ESPN to Wall Street Journal says this state is poised for a great turnaround.

Yeah. I saw the preseason game against the Browns. The first half when most of the starters were in the game was good football. Stafford really needs to learn how to duck though. He takes a LOT of hits.
Did your "Riverfest" already happen for this year or was the "sit in" from a previous year? Cleveland had one as well for many years but the deterioration of the downtown area where the river is has seen it decline. It used to be a "must do" event with bands playing everywhere and food vendors all up and down the street, and a "Parade of Lights" after dark that turned into a boat decorating contest. Great event that the inner city punks ruined.

If you mean the float down, it happened already. If you mean the fest in Detroit I honestly can't answer. I would guess it already happened since next week is Labor Day already, but can't report on how it went. Locally, the float down is the big event, that and Blue Water Festival, which is also being taken over by the people again. The city tried an outside promoter with terrible results the last two years and the following city council meeting was a takeover by the citizens. Council immediately stated they are letting the locals run it again from here on out. Another great showing by the local population that resulted in change. I'm telling ya, things are changing around here. People are not only caring, but showing up in numbers to get the change we want/need. I hope it is happening all over. I really like what the starbucks ceo started nationally with his campaign donation idea. We all need to do something if we expect change. Don't wait for the next guy. Just show up.
Oh, and the browns game, while entertaining, showed only half of our defensive line. The way they controlled Brady yesterday was exciting. And we were still missing a key defensive end in Vanden Bosch. (Farley was out too) Its gonna be a fun season to watch.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
