it's been a looooong time since i've been here. this place sure helped me a ton in learing this software. in fact, i've become so acustom to this that i pretty much only use PTPA...if fact, that's still all i use.]
My desktop PC has pretty much hit the wall. it's 10 years old and i cannot upgrade it anymore. so, in looking at new systems, the one thing i needed was a firewire input, which unfortunatly isnt availible on most new laptops unless you get a Mac....my major problem with gettting a mac other than the price was the fact that PTPA is not compatible with Macs....so, my only option was to sell my Presonus firestudio mobile and buy a USB interface. now, i have a new laptop, and the new interface is on the way...
BUT, is it possible for me to move my PTPA 12 to my new laptop? the good thing about this is the program is so affordable that i can really just download a new version if need be, but i though i would ask first.

It can't be simply moved to a new operating system It needs to be installed to work correctly. Use the install disk you got with the program.

thanks for the reply. i understand that but unfortunately, i did a digital download around the 9th release and have just been upgrading online since. i never had a disk.

Email sales at pgmusic and they will have record of it and likely give you a new download link. They are pretty good about that.
You'll need to do the program download and only the latest update.

And be sure to save your downloads (original files and updates), so if you ever have to re-install in the future, you've got the files. I just picked up a 1.5TB USB for about $100. You can store an awful lot of stuff on it.

tromeokid - I'm in the same boat regarding firewire. I made the choice back in 2004 or 2005 thinking I was buying into the superior bus.
Also discovered that most laptops today can't come with Firewire or even expresscards to allow a firewire interface.
So I'm looking at selling my PreSonus Firebox and buying into USB. Haven't decided which one yet.
Leaning to some older stuff right now: EMU 0404 USB, or M-Audio Fast Track Pro - those are on the top of my list right now. I'm also considering Lexicon Lambda - I don't need more inputs/outputs than that has.
My challenge is trying to find which interface has the cleanest mic pre-amps. Trying to identify that based on manufacturer's printed specs is quite the challenge.
