camtasia offers a demo that, iirc, is not crippled but time-limited. if you want a fabulous alternative program totally free then take a squint at "Lightworks," it's phenomenal. i recently made a video complete with soundtrack (biab, of course) from 368 digital photos. i did 40 biab tunes which was culled down to 12 of the bride's choice. i dare say, it would have cost her well over $1,000.00 to have a studio do it, sans original soundtrack. i did it as her wedding gift. she's my speech therapist whom i love. it was 47 minutes long.

don't underestimate the power of microsoft movie maker, it's part of windows or it's a free d/l from m$. it's very easy to learn while the others have a steeper learning curve.
