Trying to justify (my ancient tube TV's keep on clickin) buying a 37 or 42 inch 1080 HD LED TV to use as a second monitor to give me the whole song in RB without zooming out.

Heard there might be a huge sale before Xmas by most of the TV mfgrs this year to clear unsold inventory.

Currently using two 21" monitors side by side and the separation between the two is very annoying when scrolling or following along.

Looking at the LED's (Panasonic, LG and Visio, leaning toward LG) for less energy use.
Anybody had any experience using an HD TV as a monitor.
Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Carkins

Yes. Works fine
There was a topic recently where another user got a 36" HD for a monitor. Make sure you get one with the monitor connection, unless you have HDMI out on the computer. This works great also.

I was the one who thought it wouldn't work but Rharv set me straight. I have a 32" Sony Bravia and it works great. The only thing is you don't have all the different resolution settings you have available with a pure computer monitor but for me anyway, I don't care. 1280x720 is perfect. Biab looks awesome and so does Real Band plus an added bonus is if I want to watch a Hulu tv program or a HD Youtube video, the Sony is more than big enough plus I get to use my studio sound system. Note my system specs, my mobo has the latest ATI HD video chip and that may make a difference depending on what you have.

With Black Friday sales coming up for HDTVs, I wonder how many TVs will get sold as computer monitors this year? My new lappy has an HDMI output on it, and that lappy was just north of 400$ after tax and shipping.

Right now, I run it next to a fairly old 17" LCD monitor off of the VGA port, but as prices plummet on HDTVs with HDMI, I can see me picking up a nice HDTV for a monitor and getting rid of the 17" and just use one screen.

I do the same thing Scott, and the beauty of HDMI is the connection is often on the side of the TV (where the VGA connection is often behind it) so I can conveniently use any screeen in the house when needed.

HDMI is a treat! Audio out as well as video to the big screen.

I guess what confuses me about this thread is, how do you measure the TV resolution compared to a computer? If it's the same, then 1080 is less than the little laptop screen I'm using now (1368). Wouldn't it be blotchy at such large sizes?

It is ridiculous that one can get a 50" TV now for less than a 17" LCD monitor when they first came out.

No, it's not blotchy. It works very well, just larger. Imagine having the screen blown up to twice the size, with very lttle resolution change. I mostly run a 1366 X 766 screen resolution from laptop onto my big screens and it looks great, just bigger!
I've used 1080p, 1010i, and 720p TV's, all with great results. Brands vary from RCA to Samsung to LG, and sizes ranging from 42" to 32". Using HDMI and VGA, I've been impressed with all of them. Try it; you'll like it. Whether using BiaB, RB or streaming video over the net .. possibilities are endless. The beauty of HDMI is the added audio feed. Can't get that with VGA signal.
