Enter it as a straight dim chord, i.e. Bbdim
In most BIAB styles, it will sound as a diminished seventh.
As far as how it looks, if you have BIAB 2013 or later, you have a choice how it displays. Go to Options, Preferences, Display. In the middle there is a checkbox for treating diminished chords as 'straight' triads (and it will display as a Dim5).
This situation arose as a result of user requests to give us a 'straight' diminished triad, but of course existing songs had to remain compatible.

I'm using 2014.
It sounds OK as a Bbdim.
Can I assume something similar for E(add9). BIAB shows it as E(add2).
As you can tell my knowledge of chords is limited.

Depends on how you spell that and the sound you want. You might want E2 or E9 or Eadd2
I'm not sure how to get add9 to appear.
BIAB will change what you type in certain cases. To understand this process better, which is called shortcuts, view the text file /BB/pgshortc.txt

The Bbdim7 is also known as the Bbm7b5
A shortcut for entry onto the chord grid is the 'h'

Yes, I thought the OP asked for a diminished seventh, not a half-diminished seventh.

That would be same as a Full Diminished chord from the given spelling.
A diminished seventh chord is a four note chord that comprises a diminished triad plus the interval of a diminished seventh (alternatively regarded enharmonically as a major sixth) above the root. Thus it is (1, ♭3, ♭5, double flat7), or enharmonically (1, ♭3, ♭5, 6), of any minor scale; for example, C diminished-seventh would be (C, E♭, G♭, Bdouble flat), or enharmonically (C, E♭, G♭, A).
Full Diminished = minor 3rd between all 4 notes. --Msc
